The Asia Cup 2022 Win Brings Happiness to a Nation in Despair

After winning the Asia Cup, a new energy has swept through the streets of Sri Lanka. The streets of the city, which were once clogged with angry protesters after frustration over a financial scandal led to uprisings that toppled a long-ruling political dynasty, are now the site of victory concerts and a celebratory air. After eight years, Sri Lanka finally brings home the Asia Cup championship trophy again, with a deserving performance, making everyone happy.

In Sri Lanka, cricket is the one thing that gets the public excited about something other than politics and governance. With their recent dominance and performance, they have once again found themselves in the spotlight, and they will almost certainly be there throughout the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka Eyes T20 World Cup After Winning Asia Cup

Mahela Jayawardena, who is a member of the Cricket Hall of Fame, says that the astonishing victory that Sri Lanka achieved at the Asia Cup has shifted expectations, and that the team should now be focusing on winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, which will begin in October.

The former captain of Sri Lanka noted that the team's balanced performance was what won them the championship and brought much-needed cheer to the island nation's citizens amid the continuing financial turmoil.

After a 23-run triumph over Pakistan on the final game day, thanks to the batsmanship of B. Rajapaksa and the all-around excellence of W. Hasaranga, Sri Lanka were declared champions of the Asia Cup for the 6th time, and they got to hold the championship trophy for the first time in 8 years.

Rajapaksa, the man of the match, led the way with an unbeaten 71 runs as Sri Lanka reached 170-6 at the Dubai International Stadium. Because of this, even after their best players were knocked out of the game, the squad was able to keep going. If team spirit remains the same throughout their journey in the upcoming matches, Sri Lanka might again be presented with an international trophy.

Victory Celebration Exceeds Politics

Sri Lanka Cricket tweeted photos from the extravagant celebration. The victorious squad rode through the streets of Colombo in a victory parade with captain Dasun Shanaka carrying the trophy.

Former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was displaced and exiled to Thailand but returned to Colombo on September 2, tweeted praise for the #SriLankan team's dedication and cohesiveness on Sunday.

His successor, President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has heaped admiration on the national cricket team for their victory in the Asia Cup. He emphasized that the victory demonstrates that crisis-stricken Sri Lanka can overcome obstacles as a nation if it approaches them with passion and resolve.

Conclusion

Inflation, political unrest, floods, dengue fever, and a variety of other problems have combined to make life very difficult for Pakistanis during the last year. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has endured at least the same amount of hardship, if not more.

If Pakistan was unable to win, there was no other country that could have taken their place as winners that was more deserving than Sri Lanka. They may not have had the star qualities of other people, but they more than made up for it with their fortitude, dedication, and perseverance.
