The team was founded in 2008 and is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is considered to be the most expensive team in the IPL (as of 2022, the value reaches about $1.3 billion). In the first seasons, the team struggled desperately, but managed to finish only in the middle of the table. The turning point in the team's success was the appointment of Sachin Tendulkar as captain. His team spirit and leadership had an immediate impact on the players and the team managed to reach the 2010 IPL final. Though losing to Chennai Super Kings in the final, the Indians fundamentally changed their game and continued to build up a strong momentum for future events. And after the acquisition of player Rohit Sharma, the team has steadily started producing outstanding results. The 2010–2012 seasons are considered as the formative period of the future champions.
