Former Indian captain Virat Kohli performed a dominating batting performance in the first game of the three-match home ODI series against South Africa at Ranchi on Sunday (November 30) night, as the hosts India claimed a 17-run win in the high-scoring game to take a 1-0 lead in the series. 


After South Africa chose to field first, India scored 349/8 in 50 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli’s magnificent hundred and other supporting roles from Rohit Sharma (57), stand-in captain KL Rahul (60), and Ravindra Jadeja (32).


Kohli scored his 52nd ODI century, as he completed it in 102 balls with a four. Before getting out, Kohli scored 135 off 120 balls with 11 fours and seven sixes.

Kohli recorded his 52nd ODI century.

  • With this century, Kohli set a new record for most centuries in an international format. Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar recorded 51 Test centuries, which was the previous record.

  • Only the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar recorded more international centuries than Kohli, as Tendulkar recorded 100 international hundreds. 


Kohli recorded his sixth ODI century against South Africa.

  • Kohli now holds the record for the most ODI centuries against South Africa. Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and former Australian cricketer David Warner were the previous record holders with five ODI centuries each against South Africa.

  • Only the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of Kohli in the list of most ODI centuries in Asia, with 38 ODI centuries in Asia.
