Al Hilal has been on a rocky boat this season in the Saudi Pro League unable to maintain consistency and drifting off from a title race. They currently sit in fourth place grabbing the AFC Champions League qualification slot with a 10 points gap from the top place holders Al Ittihad. The 1-0 loss to bottom-placed Al Batin was a new low to their season as they have gone three games winless in the league now. This comes after Al Hilal enjoyed a decent period in four prior league games winning all without conceding a goal and scoring 11 times. Since then, they have let in six goals and scored only two. They now play a hugely significant Riyadh derby against rivals from the capital city, Al Nassr in an attempt to close down the gap to the top three to one point. Al Hilal faces a tough schedule in these with leaders Al Ittihad to face twice in the cup after the derby and then again in the league later next month but before facing J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds in the double-legged AFC Champions League final.
Al Nassr will be desperate to triumph in the derby not only because of their three-game winless run in this fixture but also to get level on points with Al Ittihad at the top. They are three points behind the league leaders in the second spot with a total of 53 points collected over 23 games. Losing the head to heads battle with Al Ittihad last month was only the bitter result over the last eight games for Al Nassr in the goalless draw against 12th placed Al Feiha in the last match not taken into consideration. Cristiano Ronaldo was understandably frustrated with the result but he will be seeking his derby goal to help his side regain the momentum. Al Nassr have not won the capital clash against Al Hilal since December 2021 when Vincent Aboubakar and Anderson Talisca found the scoresheet. They played an exciting 2-2 draw in the last meeting after suffering a 4-0 thrashing in March last year. Al Nassr will rely on the supreme firepower of Ronaldo and Talisca to do the damage in the derby.
