ARS-W vs MCI-W Match Preview

Picking up hard-fought wins in their last two WSL games against Aston Villa at home and Bristol City away, Arsenal feel they finally have the momentum to build on. The Gunners started the season poorly losing to Liverpool in the league opener in front of a record crowd at Emirates after failing in the Champions League qualifiers. Then they required a late goal to rescue a point in their trip to face Manchester United but the squad seem to be finding their way now. Arsenal have Katie McCabe to thank for those wins with the 28-year-old scoring two goals for the 2-1 success against promoted team Bristol City including the winner. The Ireland captain has also been in sensational form with her nation, scoring a hat-trick against Albania in the recent international break. Now with a huge tester in the form of Manchester City, Jonas Eidevall's team are counting on her brilliance for the club again to break the league leader’s unbeaten streak. A win will see them go level on points with Sunday‘s opposition from their seventh spot on the standings. A chance Arsenal will not want to miss having won this meeting five out of the last six times at home.

Manchester City had a more determined start to the WSL season collecting three wins in four games so far and also restricting holders Chelsea to a 1-1 draw. They also picked up a 1-0 win against a spirited Leicester City team with a goal from in-form Chloe Kelly but should have added more to their tally. City‘s excellent start has branded them title favourites by some as they fight to avoid their disappointment of finishing fourth-place finish last season and not even making it to the qualifiers for the Champions League. Chelsea are breathing close again and games like this facing another title contender in Arsenal that City needs to capitalize to fulfill their dream of winning the second WSL trophy. Getting a victory will lay down a marker. Gareth Taylor’s side aims to maintain their undefeated streak in the trip to London by adding to the superior goal difference which separates them on top of the table. However, City have to play this fixture without center-back Alex Greenwood after a head injury during England duty giving the side a major injury blow to tackle with.
