The Gameweek 5 deadline is fast approaching, and the fantasy managers are looking to lock their team in. All the early pace is settling in, and the managers are getting to know more about which players to target in the season ahead. After the midweek European fixtures, there are chances of rotation in teams such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester City.

Here we are with our top 5 forward picks for Gameweek 5:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m), West Ham United vs Manchester United

The homecoming for Cristiano Ronaldo started on a brilliant note after his brace against Newcastle. Even before the Portuguese kicked a ball in this season’s Premier League, he already had 40% ownership to start with. Such is the impact of the player which has been seen again and again. Come the match against Newcastle, and Ronaldo did not disappoint the high ownership.

After his brace, the ownership has only seen a rise and it is criminal to leave a player with such high ownership out of the team irrespective of the fixtures. An away fixture against West Ham might not be the easiest but some players are fixture-proof. Leaving a player selected by half the FPL managers possesses a risk of lagging in the early stages of FPL which might prove costly in the season ahead.

2. Romelu Lukaku (£11.6m), Tottenham vs Chelsea

Another premium forward who has started the season well is Chelsea’s Lukaku. After his recent brace against Aston Villa, he has become one of the most popular picks in the FPL. An assured starter under Tuchel, it is difficult to look away from Lukaku with the form that he is in.

A match against London rivals Spurs is not the easiest fixture. However, Spurs have not been in the best of form recently after a 3-0 loss against Palace and a draw in Europa League. The home side is struck by several injuries and hence this is yet another fixture where Lukaku could increase his goal-scoring returns.

3. Patrick Bamford (£7.9m), Newcastle vs Leeds United

One of the most popular picks of last year, Patrick Bamford, has not been in the best of form this season. Leeds themselves are yet to get their attacking intent going which made them one of the teams to watch out for in the last season. Bamford has only managed a goal and an assist in the first 4 fixtures.

However, the fixture against Newcastle might just be the match where Leeds gets their attacking mojo back. Bamford being at the center of Leeds attack is expected to get a goal in the fixture against Newcastle.

4. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£9.9m), Burnley vs Arsenal

One of the unpopular picks in the list, Aubameyang has the fixture to get the goals. Arsenal started on a poor note in the first 3 game weeks but they got back to winning ways against Norwich with a 1-0 win. It was Aubameyang who scored the goal in the win, and he is the one who looks likely to score more.

Burnley have not been in the best of form and Arsenal can look to capitalise on their win to move up in the Premier League table. The Gabonese is not owned by a lot of FPL managers, with his ownership only at 2.3%. He can prove to be an excellent differential in Gameweek 5.

5. Gabriel Jesus (£8.6m), Manchester City vs Southampton

Manchester City have an excellent record against Southampton, and it looks right to say that they can extend it further this weekend. Going for Manchester City’s players can be a risk due to Pep’s regular rotations. However, after Jesus was benched in the midweek’s UCL fixture, he looks set to start against Southampton in Gameweek 5.

Jesus already has 3 assists and a goal this season and is expected to increase his attacking returns against Southampton. The away side has a weak defensive record and City’s attacking potential paves the way for a big haul from Gabriel Jesus.
