JFC vs MCFC Match Preview
Time has long run out for Jamshedpur FC to try to salvage a poor defense to their ISL Winner’s Shield title or even get into a playoff spot this season. Such has been the collapse of the team that they are languishing at the second-last spot on the league chart with merely nine points registered from 15 games. The Men of Steels have only managed to win only two games and suffered losses in 10 of them. Managed to score only 13 and conceded 28. The 3-0 loss to Bengaluru FC last week showed everything wrong with the team at the moment. Shaky defense and a toothless attack has caused this massive imbalance in the side which had some lofty ambition in this campaign after their improvising achievement last term. Now, Adrian Boothroyd’s team is left to play the damage control in the remaining five matches of the league phase. However, a daunting schedule awaits them with four of the top six teams to face including the team that replaced them as the top-seekers this season. The dominant and stylish league leaders Mumbai City FC visits them next on the back of a nine-game winning streak. Jamshedpur FC did snatch a point out of them in the reverse fixture early in the season but a repeat of that results looks highly unlikely this time around.
The return of Jorge Pereyra Diaz to the starting eleven from suspension against NorthEast United became key for Mumbai City FC to restore their goal-hungry attitude this season. Without him, the Islanders could only manage a slender 1-0 victory against ATK Mohun Bagan in the previous match. The Argentinian number nine is important in linking up attacks for his side but most importantly banging goals for fun. Against the Highlanders, he got on the scoresheet on his return six minutes after Ahmed Jahouh’s deflected long-ranger rested in the net for the opener with only five minutes on the clock. Greg Stewart forced an Alex Saji own goal in the 15th minute before Vinit Rai neatly tucked away his chance to finish the scoring in the first half itself. Wilmar Jordan was shown a straight red just before the break leaving NorthEast United to tackle the second half with a man down. The Highlanders defended this period well without allowing any more strikes to rest in their net but Mumbai City FC’s job was long done. There is little to no stopping for the side as they look to affirm their Winner’s Shield spot by carrying on with their incredible winning habit. After facing Jamshedpur FC, the Islanders will be locked into a top-of-the-table clash with Hyderabad FC next month so no slip-offs can be afforded here.
