After an excellent end to 2023, Kerala Blasters have disastrously started the present year. Eliminated from the group stages of the Super Cup, the Tuskers have suffered three consecutive defeats in the ISL which has knocked them off from the top spot. Placed fifth, the Blasters trails leaders Odisha FC by five points and will be desperate to end their losing streak before it's too late. Facing fourth-placed FC Goa in the next match at home, the idea will be to avoid defeat at all costs if a win is not possible to prevent the gap from widening. Three points will pull them to third place but managing just one win in 13 previous meetings and a loss in the last two at home does not make a good reading for Kerala Blasters ahead of the fixture.
FC Goa has also had a forgettable start to 2024 in the ISL, losing the last two games having stayed unbeaten for the first 12 matches of the league season. Both defeats came at home with a 2-0 loss suffered in the last match against NorthEast United. While the Gaurs remain only three points away from the top spot, this series of setbacks has let others gain ground. Coach Manolo Marquez will be urging his side to bounce back quickly and produce something positive in a tough schedule ahead. Goa will make tough trips to Kerala and Mumbai, both title contenders, before facing Super Cup champions East Bengal at home. The side will draw inspiration from their 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters in the reverse fixture to get them back on track.
