KBFC vs OFC Match Preview

Card and injury problems did take a toll on Kerala Blasters but they still managed to draw 1-1 with NorthEast United. Nestor Albiach’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Danish Farooq scoring for consecutive games after the break. However, the Blasters’s winning run at home came to an end and they have now gone back-to-back game winless. Frank Dauwen was not happy with the performance but he will return to the assistant coach role as Ivan Vukomanovic completes his 10-match ban. The Serbian will be on the touchline for the first time since March after the infamous walkover incident in the playoff battle against rivals Bengaluru FC last season. That too in Kochi in front of the huge support readying themselves for his reception. The Tuskers hope his presence will give them the spark again after starting the season in a decent fashion under Dauwen. Seventh-placed Odisha FC will be the visitors whom they have lost only once, facing the erstwhile Delhi Dynamos that time, at home which came back in 2015. Kerala Blasters are looking to maintain the fruitful run in this meeting to go level on points with FC Goa at the top. It was a tight contest these two met last time in Kochi with right-back Sandeep Singh's late goal making the difference.

Odisha FC did not return to ISL action after the international break as they were involved in the AFC Cup where they thrashed Maldivians Maziya Sports & Recreation 6-1. There were six different goal scorers in the game for the Juggernauts strikingly with more than half of the starting eleven contributing to at least one strike. The scoring started with Puitea scoring from a corner within three minutes and ended with substitute Sahil Panwar’s goal in almost the last action of the game. Odisha FC gathered their first win of the competition in style and although they remain four points off the top spot with three more games to go in the group stages, Sergio Lobera wants to use this victory to galvanise his side for the rest of the campaign. Not only for their continental survival but also to improve in their domestic league. The Kalinga Warriors are just a point away from the top-six spot after three games. With the squad they have built which finally seems to be clicking with Lobera’s tactics, Odisha FC could think of the ISL Shield place. They have to start winning for that after going the last two games winless like Kerala Blasters whom they face next in a challenging trip to Kochi.
