MBSG vs OFC Match Details

Only last week, Mohun Bagan SG suffered a painful 5-2 defeat at the hands of Odisha FC in their own backyard which eliminated them from AFC Cup knockout contention. This was the competition the Mariners dreamt of winning and invested heavily in the summer transfer window as a case. However, back-to-back losses in the group stages with the other coming against Basundhara Kings from Bangladesh failed to make it possible. Juan Ferrando’s men are now set to face the same opposition in their domestic league at the Salt Lake once again with revenge definitely on the cards. So far, Mohun Bagan have been shining in the ISL becoming the first side to win the first five games of the season on the trot. Two defenders Brendan Hamill and Asish Rai got on the scoresheet to secure a 2-0 victory coming in the last five minutes plus stoppage time against Hyderabad FC, ironically played at Odisha FC’s home ground Kalinga Stadium because of state elections in Telangana, on their return to league action. Although the performance was unsatisfactory, results will be more important in this stage for the top-of-the-table push. The Green and Maroon will wish to maintain their winning run in the league and the unbeaten streak against Odisha FC in the ISL to go within one point of FC Goa having played two fewer games than the leaders.

The Juggernauts will not be letting it happen easily after picking up their first-ever win against the Kolkata giants in any competition last week and probably the most important one in the club’s history.  Odisha FC now need to beat Basundhara Kings at home in the final game to qualify for the inter-zonal semi-finals in their debut AFC Cup campaign. It will be a historic feat for last season’s Super Cup winners. Sergio Lobera’s men have also been mindful of their business in ISL side by side building up to that huge clash next Monday. Odisha FC broke their away hoodoo in the ISL this season with a 1-0 victory over Jamshedpur FC and have now won six games on the spin in all competitions. Roy Krishna scored the sole goal in the win over the Men of Steels and will return to his old stomping ground again. The Fijian scored once and provided two assists in the last encounter against his old side in the hope of doing the same again. Having pulled themselves to fourth on the chart, the Kalinga Warriors will want to keep the momentum going to be in the race for the Shield as well. After facing Mohun Bagan, Odisha FC will face three low-placed teams in the league in the last four games of 2023. Hence, three points will be vital again for them in this clash.

MBSG vs OFC Team News

Manvir Singh could return for Mohun Bagan Super Giant after missing the last three games for club and country with a muscle injury. However, he might not feature from the start with a place on the bench looking likely. Uncertainty over Dimitri Petratos’s availability remains with the squad expected to remain the same from their win against Hyderabad FC.

Odisha FC could be without center-back Mourtada Fall again but Narender Gahlot-Carlos Delgado’s partnership at the back is looking solid so far. The Juggernauts will also remain unchanged with Roy Krishna starting up front instead of Diego Mauricio. Both are in scoring form but the ex-Mohun Bagan striker has five goal contributions against his former side including three strikes.
