SEV vs MUN Match Preview

Sevilla did not lose heart going 2-0 down against Manchester United in the first 20 minutes of the Europa League quarterfinal tie in the first leg at Old Trafford and made a stunning comeback late in the match. Fortunes played a big part as Jesus Navas’s cross was turned into his own net by Tyrell Malacia while Youssef En-Neysri’s header took a big deflection off Harry Maguire’s head to beat David de Gea in the net. The side from Seville returned to Spain with a well-deserved point and has the chance to frustrate the guest again by maintaining their unbeaten record against them en route to the semifinals. Since Jose Luis Mendilibar took the hot seat this month, Sevilla have not lost a single game of the four matches he has been in charge of. They have pulled themselves to 13th place on the La Liga table with the 2-0 victory against Valencia at the weekend extending an eight point-gap from the drop zone. With the scare of relegation seemingly over, Sevilla can focus on the competition they have won a record six times to taste European football next season by winning it again. A place in the Champions League will be earned as a result which will be a boon in a forgetful 2022/23 season for the club.

Manchester United will be adamant to end those dreams of the opposition as they look to keep the hunt for trophies this season. The Red Devils thought they had ended their misery facing the Spanish side in European competitions when Marcel Sabitzer scored a quick brace to almost set an early foot in the semifinals but were stunned by the late comeback from Sevilla. The lead was lost and also key players with the first-choice center-back pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane taken off due to injury. The absentees did not disrupt the side as United claimed a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at the weekend. Brazilian winger Antony gave his side the lead and then set up Diogo Dalot, filling at left-back, for the second with a sublime pass. The Portuguese scored the first Premier League goal of his career. Erik ten Hag will be rallying his side to keep the same tempo in their trip to Spain to set up a spicy last-four encounter with Sporting CP or the Italian giants Juventus. Sevilla have won 23 of their 26 games in the Europa League at home but United have lost just once in the last 12 matches on the travel in the competition. The English giants will be confident to make it correct this time to secure their first win in this meeting.

SEV vs MUN Team News

Sevilla will not have right-back Gonzalo Montiel in their ranks after the World Cup winner received a booking in the first leg thereby reaching the limit of yellow cards. Former Manchester City player Jesus Navas will start in his place. There are no injury concerns for coach Jose Luis Mendilibar to think about. Pape Gueye and Tecatito Corona are ineligible for the competition.

On the contrary, Manchester United had to deal with numerous injury issues with Marcel Sabitzer who scored the brace in the first leg adding himself to the absentee list. The Austrian picked up a problem in the warm-up against Nottingham Forest to be replaced by Christian Eriksen himself returning from his ankle injury. United already lost Lisandro Martinez for the season after he suffered a broken foot last week and underwent successful surgery. His center-back partner Raphael Varane is also out for weeks after being substituted like him in the match. Tyrell Malacia is also out with a sore knee forcing Diogo Dalot to fill as the left-back with Luke Shaw unavailable.
