Spain squares off against Sweden at their home to obtain the points that will put them in the group stage draw for the World Cup next year. In that case, Sweden has to wait for their opposition in the playoffs to have a chance to travel to Qatar.

SPA vs SWE Match Details :

When: Sunday, 14 November/ Monday, 15 November

Timings: 08:45 (CET)/ 01:15 (IST)

Where: Estadio La Cartuja, Sevilla

SPA vs SWE Match Preview :

Luis Enrique's Spain are on the cusp of sealing qualification to the World Cup in Qatar after a significant win over Greece in their latest qualifying game. Although it was only Pablo Sarabia's penalty that separated the two on the evening, La Roja wanted the results more than the football they played. Greece snatched a point out of them in the earlier meeting so this win was crucial. After also narrowly missing the Nations League trophy to France and finishing as a semifinalist in the European Championship, Spain want to round off an excellent year for them to book the ticket to Qatar early rather than waiting for the playoffs in March. They have picked up decisive results on the road even if their style of play didn't meet the expectations. But Spain was professional in their stride and scoring in every game of the qualifiers so far.  However, their only defeat came against Sweden itself so any mistake will be punished.

Although, Sweden have shot themselves on the foot capitulating from a position of ensuring qualification to the main tournament. That win against Spain dubbed them as favorites to emerge as group winners but then defeat to Greece and the surprise loss to Georgia put them on the back foot. That game on Thursday was the perfect opportunity for Janne Anderson men to increase the point gap with Spain and just avoid defeat while facing them in the final game of the qualifiers. Instead, they have to do it all against a spirited opponent. One thing Sweden are relieved about is that they don't have to lose on World Cup qualification completely with Greece no longer in consideration for a playoff place.

The fixture promises drama, nervousness and above all goals and Sweden can only hope that everything falls in their path on Sunday.

SPA vs SWE Team News :

La Roja lost key players in Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia and Yeremi Pino to injuries for their last two qualifiers. Gavi was also replaced against Greece after suffering a blow to his face but Luis Enrique has deemed him 'fine'. It is left to see whether he begins in the midfield for this all-important encounter. Staying in the middle of the park, Sergio Busquets and Dani Olmo will be preferred over Rodri and Raul De Tomas for Sweden after impressing from the bench against Greece. There is no other concern for Spain to deal with. Jose Gaya got the nod over Jordi Alba in the last match putting up a gold display and is expected to begin here as well. Enrique has preferred the right and left-footed defensive combination for a passing outlet so Pau Torres has to sit on the bench again for Inigo Martinez to partner Laporte at the back.

For Sweden, Albin Ekdal is back from his suspension providing a great boost for the side and going into the starting eleven straightaway. Dejan Kulusevski is also pushing for a start after coming off the bench at Georgia. Emil Forsberg and Kristofer Olson will only retain their spot in the midfield after the defeat on Thursday. Mattias Svanberg and Victor Claesson will drop to the bench. The back four remains unchanged despite conceding in the last match with Lindelof will pair with Nilsson once again at center-back. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is eager to get on the scoresheet for his nation after breaking his retirement and he will partner with Alexander Isak upfront.

SPA vs SWE Predicted Lineups :

Spain: Unai Simon; Dani Carvajal, Aymeric Laporte, Inigo Martinez, Jose Gaya, Gavi, Sergio Busquets, Koke, Pablo Sarabia, Alvaro Morata, Dani Olmo

Sweden: Robin Olsen; Emil Krafth, Victor Lindelof, Joakim Nilsson, Ludwig Augustinsson, Dejan Kulusevski, Albin Ekdal, Kristofer Olsson, Emil Forsberg, Alexander Isak, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

SPA vs SWE Head to Head :

To Sweden's credit, they have been the  opposition Spain has failed to beat in last three encounters. The Blue and Yellows defeated La Roja in the other fixture in the qualifiers with Isak and Viktor Claesson scoring to cancel out Carlos Soler opener early in the game. Both of them met in this year's European Chanpionship with the game finishing 0-0 even though Spain achieved record possession of the ball in the tournament. However, Spain have six wins compared to Sweden's four in 16 meetings so far between the nations.

SPA vs SWE Dream11 Team Prediction:

GK: Simon (SPA)

DEF: Carvajal (SPA), Lindelof (SWE), Laporte (SPA), Gaya (SPA)

MID: Busquets (SPA), Koke (SPA), K. Olsson (SWE),

FW: Olmo (SPA), Isak (SWE), Forsberg (SWE)

Match Prediction: Spain 2-1 Sweden

Nothing but a victory for Spain looks to be on the horizon. Swedenise a capable opposition but they have made life difficult for themselves and with La Roja in such fine form, they have to settle for a playoff place in the table.
