Your players earn Fantasy points based on their real-life performances, while smart transfers, substitutions and captaincy decisions can make a huge difference to your overall score.

What Is UEFA Champions League Fantasy?
UCL Fantasy is a virtual football management game based on the UEFA Champions League. You receive a budget and use it to build a 15-player squad. You then select 11 players for each matchday, with those players earning points from their performances in actual Champions League matches.
The 2026/27 game has 17 matchdays, covering the league phase, knockout phase play-offs, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
How to Build Your UCL Fantasy Squad
Your squad must contain 15 players:
2 goalkeepers
5 defenders
5 midfielders
3 forwards
You have a €100 million budget at the start of the competition, which increases to €105 million after the league phase.
During the league phase, you can select a maximum of three players from any one club. This limit increases as the competition progresses, reaching eight players per club for the final.
Your starting XI must also follow formation rules. You need one goalkeeper, at least three defenders, at least two midfielders and at least one forward.
How Do UCL Fantasy Points Work?
Players earn points for their performances in Champions League matches. Goals are particularly valuable, although the number of points depends on the player's position.
A goal is worth:
6 points for goalkeepers and defenders
5 points for midfielders
4 points for forwards
An assist is worth 3 points regardless of position. Players can also earn points for appearances, playing 60 minutes, recovering the ball and being named Player of the Match. A goal scored from outside the box earns an additional point.
Defenders and goalkeepers can gain four points for a clean sheet, while goalkeepers can also earn points for penalty saves and saves.
However, players can lose points for events such as yellow cards, red cards, own goals, missed penalties and goals conceded.
Captaincy Is Crucial
Your captain is one of the most important decisions you make each matchday because their points are doubled.
UCL Fantasy has an important twist: you can change your captain during most matchdays.
For example, if your captain plays on Tuesday and produces a disappointing score, you can switch the armband to a player whose team plays on Wednesday. The new captain's points will then be doubled. However, you cannot switch back once the change has been confirmed.
A useful beginner strategy is therefore to select a captain playing on the first day of a matchday. This gives you the opportunity to move the captaincy later if necessary.
How Do Substitutions Work?
Unlike many traditional fantasy games, UCL Fantasy allows you to make substitutions during a matchday.
After the first day's matches have finished, you can replace up to four players with substitutes whose teams have not played yet. Players you remove will score zero points for that matchday.
This creates an important strategic opportunity. If one of your Tuesday players scores poorly, you can replace him with a Wednesday player who has a better chance of producing points.
You can also make unlimited transfers between matchdays, subject to the game's transfer rules.
Transfers and Free Transfers
During the league phase, you receive two free transfers per matchday. Additional transfers cost four points each.
You can carry over one unused free transfer into the following matchday, but you cannot accumulate transfers indefinitely.
There are also unlimited-transfer windows before the knockout phase play-offs and round of 16, allowing managers to rebuild their squads around the teams that remain in contention.
What Are the UCL Fantasy Chips?
There are two special chips available during the season: Wildcard and Limitless.
Wildcard
The Wildcard allows unlimited free transfers for a matchday, with the players you select remaining in your squad afterwards. It is particularly useful when your squad needs a major overhaul.
Limitless
The Limitless chip gives you unlimited transfers and an unlimited budget for one matchday. Once that matchday ends, your squad returns to its previous configuration.
Both chips can be used only once and cannot be played on certain matchdays where managers already receive unlimited transfers.
UCL Fantasy Deadlines
Your team locks when the first match of a matchday kicks off. You must save your team before that deadline for your selections to count.
For the 2026/27 season, Matchday 1 begins on September 8, while the Champions League final is Matchday 17 on June 5, 2027.
For beginners, one of the best habits is to check the official line-ups before the first matches begin. UEFA itself recommends waiting for confirmed line-ups where possible, as this can help you avoid selecting players who are not starting.
Best Beginner Strategy for UCL Fantasy
The simplest approach is to focus on players who are likely to start regularly, attack-minded midfielders, reliable defenders from strong teams and forwards with favourable fixtures.
Do not spend your entire budget on famous names. Squad depth is important because you can make substitutions during a matchday.
Most importantly, pay attention to fixtures, starting line-ups, captaincy and transfer opportunities rather than simply picking your favourite players.
