WHU vs LIV Match Preview

The 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth was a huge win for West Ham’s top-flight survival as they went six points clear from the drop zone with a game in hand. The Cherries were in a good patch of winning run in the last two games by beating relegation rivals Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspurs so the victory over them was a morale-boosting one as well. Added with a qualification to the Europa Conference League semi-finals after beating Belgian side Gent 5-2 on aggregate, the Hammers feel they are moving back to their usual self under David Moyes. All of the goals scored in a game were a delight to watch with headers from Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta setting the tone for a fine finish from Declan Rice later. However, the pick of the bunch was the game-settling goal from Pablo Fornals with a sensational scorpion kick. Carrying some great result over the last five games in all competition including preventing league leaders Arsenal in a 2-2 draw in the previous Premier League game at London Stadium, West Ham look to maintain the momentum to climb further up the table from their 13th position against a similar goal-hungry side in Liverpool in midweek.

Liverpool reintegrated themselves in the hunt for a European football spot with two back-to-back wins in the Premier League after a 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Anfield which they could have won at the death. The Reds scored a ton of goals over that period thrashing Leeds United 6-1 and then playing out a thrilling 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest back at home last Saturday. All three goals scored by Liverpool came from free-kicks stunningly with Diogo Jota scoring twice for the second game running before a Mohamed Salah winner in the 70th minute. Trent Alexander-Arnold was the architect causing menace with his set-pieces throughout the match as he embraced the midfield role for him drifting from the right-back spot. Forest twice came back into the game with a former Red Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White scoring but Jurgen Klopp’s stood strong under pressure, not weltering just they have done in most parts of the campaign. Signs of recovery is there even though they have leaked goals as they have scored with the six-time European champions now wishing to go a point close to a possible continental football opportunity next season from their seventh position on the table. They lost 3-1 on the previous trip to London Stadium so are cautious about their approach to not collapse again.

WHU vs LIV Team News

Gianluca Scamacca is still out with a knee injury but the striker could not have displaced Michail Antonio in scoring form from the starting XI even if fit. Angelo Ogbonna returned from his back problem as a substitute in the big win against Bournemouth while Danny Ings will face his former side if featured in the match from the bench. Pablo Fornals could get a shout having been a nightmare for Liverpool in previous fixtures scoring three against them, more than any other Premier League side.

The Reds are finally easing on the injury front with Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara recovered from their setbacks but at the same time adding to it with Roberto Firmino joining Naby Keita, Stefan Bajcetic and Calvin Ramsay on the sidelines due to a muscle injury. Hence, Klopp is likely to stick with the same personnel that churn out a 3-2 win over Forest at the weekend.
