Argentina – 1 (Sergio Aguero)

Iceland- 1 (Alfred Finnbogason)

Iceland proving that they’re here to compete, not just add the numbers as they hold mighty Argentina for a 1-1 draw in a Group D Match at Spartak Stadium, Moscow. Before, the start of this match discussion was how many goals Argentina will score against the relatively weaker opposition. But to their credit, Iceland has shown admirable determination to snatched out a point from this very difficult game from their point of view.

Argentina started the game on a positive note as a result got the first goal of the match in 19 minutes. Aguero scored a terrific goal with his left foot to give Argentina a lead in the match. But the joy was short-lived, as Iceland retaliated soon after through Alfred Finnbogason. He finished a rebound from a close range, with that he became the first player to score in the World Cup for Iceland.

A lot was expected from Barcelona star, Lionel Messi. But he failed to make an impact, missed a crucial penalty in the 2nd half of the match. Messi took 10 shots on the goal but couldn't able to find the back of the net. It wasn't his day in the end. Messi looked dejected at the end of the match. That missed penalty would definitely be hurting him from inside. Argentina dominated the match with 78 percent ball possession but just couldn't find the back of the net when it required.

Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson had an outstanding match made seven saves during the match including the penalty, which he stopped spectacularly with a drive on his right-hand side of the post.

It is a memorable day for Iceland and for their fans. On the other a lot to think about for Jorge Sampoli, as pressure mounts on him.
