When Aston Villa failed to qualify for the Champions League towards the end of the Premier League season last year, it was then known that they would be playing in the Europa League. This immediately led to lots of fans already claiming that Villa were going to easily walk away with the Europa League the next season. Fast forward to the present, that prediction is very close to being a reality. The primary reason why many fans went ahead with such a big claim prematurely is none other than Unai Emery.
As we mentioned in our previous Europa League semi-final Predictions article, Emery in the Europa League is the same as Real Madrid in the Champions, they are masters of these respective tournaments. The fact that the Europa League also didn't have any teams near to the quality of Villa was another reason most fans were so confident Emery's side would reach the final. In fact, many saw the semi-final fixture between Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa as the real final, as Forest were considered by most to be the only remaining side in the tournament who had the quality to overcome Villa. However, what ended up happening was an Unai Emery masterclass that saw Villa blow away Forest Aggregate 4-1.
Freiburg have done an excellent job to reach the finals of the Europa League. However, their final against Villa is going to be like a David vs Goliath situation. The German side are huge underdogs for this game, and although it's not impossible, a victory over an Aston Villa side that's managed by the master tactician Emery would end up as one of the biggest shocks in European football history. However, we feel the odds are against them, and Aston Villa will end up victorious which would mean a record 5th Europa League title for Unai Emery.
