A line-up of PL legends who didn’t win the Player of the Month

So, on a random given matchday, Mason Mount from Chelsea or Marcus Rashford from Manchester United are good players. When they become the difference makers in a match- they go on to become the Player of the Match. Certainly, if they continue providing a string of wonderful performances, there’s a high chance he/she might go on to win the Player of the Month.

Now even though it’s an accolade and the best players from Premier League have won it more often than not, there’s a portion of very good players, who never went on to claim the trophy. They are:

1) Peter Schmeichel- GK

One of the greatest goalies in Premier League history? To some extent, yes. Manchester United's best number one? Without a doubt. Despite being a top-tier shot-stopper for over a decade, Peter Schmeichel has never won the Player of the Month Award.

2) Gary Neville- RB

During his illustrious 15-year career, another member of Manchester United's famed Treble-winning defence ever received the Premier League's monthly award. Although David Beckham received most of the accolades along that right-hand side, it's tough to justify Neville's exclusion when you consider that Muzzy Izzet, Kevin Campbell, and Alex Manninger all won it in 1998/99.

3) Sol Campbell- CB

His switch from Tottenham to Arsenal ruffled a lot of feathers, and it appears to have irritated the Premier League voting panel as well. There is no other explanation for why Sol Campbell was never named the best player in the division throughout his stay in the top flight.

4) Vincent Kompany- CB

Manchester City great who guided the team to four titles, including two memorable home victories over Manchester United in 2011/12 and Leicester in 2018/19. Despite this, he has never been the top player throughout the Premier League for a single month.

5) Ashley Cole-LB

It’s certainly not possible to name a left-back with as much influence as Ashley Cole. That is indeed why it's such a disgrace that Ashley Cole has never deemed the greatest player in the division.

6) Xabi Alonso- CDM

Once, Rafa Benitez attempted to evict Xabi Alonso from Liverpool since he preferred Gareth Barry. The Premier League voting committee, it seemed, held the same regard for this Champions League and World Cup champion as his former boss.

7) Patrick Vieira- CM

This is a very incredible revelation. When Ray Parlour has won more Player of the Month accolades than Patrick Vieira, you realize something seriously wrong with the Premier League Player of the Month honours.

8) Yaya Toure- CM

Yaya Touré was not just one of the finest in the Premier League for almost a year in 2012, but also one of the producers of remarkable performances around the world. And yet, here he is, again, perplexed as to why such a gifted player was never fully recognised.

9) Kevin De Bruyne-CAM

A newer addition to the literature. We believe it is reasonable to conclude that Kevin de Bruyne has shown one of the finest performances in the Premier League since joining Manchester City in 2015. Teemu Pukki, Andre Ayew, and Fraser Forster have all received Premier League Player of the Month awards since then.

10) Alexis Sanchez- ST

Leaving aside his brief time at United, Alexis Sánchez was as lethal as it gets in the Premier League for 4 years. Individual prizes, however, were not given out to him.

11) Didier Drogba- ST

The crown jewel of this ludicrously stupid list. During his incredible eight years at Chelsea, Didier Drogba was a nightmare for opponents all around the league. You could make a compelling case that he is the best striker in Premier League history.
