Andre Onana is determined to return to Manchester United after his Trabzonspor loan and take back the goalkeeper position from Senne Lammens, according to a new report. The Cameroonian goalkeeper was loaned out by Manchester United after his underwhelming time at the club. Onana's replacement , Senne Lammens, on the other hand, has established himself as one of the best bargain buys in recent Premier League history.
What new report says about Andre Onana returning to Manchester United
A new article from The Guardian states that André Onana is determined to fight for his place as Manchester United’s No.1 when his loan spell at Trabzonspor ends in May. The goalkeeper, who joined United from Inter in July 2023 on a five-year deal worth an initial £44.1m, struggled with consistency and made several costly errors. Signed and backed by Erik ten Hag, Onana later fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim, who dropped him after mistakes in a 2–2 draw with Lyon and left him out at the start of this season.
Our opinion on Andre Onana potentially returning and replacing Senne Lammens as Man Utd's main Goalkeeper
The general consensus among majority football fans is that Andre Onana is simply not good enough. His time at Manchester United was filled with countless errors that cost them numerous games and resulted in huge criticism from United fans. Thus, they might be surprised to see that the Cameroonian believes he could replace Senne Lammens once he returns after his loan.
Lammens has been fantastic at United since joining from Belgian side Royal Antwerp. His fantastic shot stopping abilities combined with such a high composure at a young age of 23 is what makes him stand out. Most Utd fans would even argue that the short time Lammens has been at the club so far is better than the 2 years Onana spent at the club.
We also share the same opinion as most United fans here, that there is absolutely no chance that Onana could replace Lammens after he returns from his loan move. Anyone who saw Andre Onana in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final knows that there is a world-class Goalkeeper in Andre Onana. However, we feel the pressure of being Manchester United's goalkeeper and the playing style of Premier League teams was too much for him to handle. It's simply one of those cases where a player might be good enough, but not suited to a particular fan. United fans would not have to look far for a perfect example of this, as Marcus Rashford to Barcelona is currently proving our statement.
So if you're a fan of Senne Lammens, have no worries as he's probably to keep his place as Manchester United's top Goalkeeper for a long time as things stand.
