Espn dropped a bombshell transfer report that Arsenal are looking to sign Atlético Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, and this may be a huge future transfer move that has huge repercussions on the careers of Arsenal stars Viktor Gyökeres, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz. Alvarez has been impressive for Atlético Madrid since joining the club from Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, although the same can't be said about Diego Simeone's side as a collective. Atlético Madrid are currently 4th in La Liga, and don't look like a club that can win any major silverware any season. Alvarez is undoubtedly a player with huge ambition, and is sure to look for a summer move if Rojiblancos fail to meet his expectations
Arsenal Looking to Sign Barcelona Target Julian Alvarez in the Summer
According to espn, Arsenal are considering a potential summer move for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez. The interest is being driven in part by Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta, who has deep ties with Atlético Madrid after spending 12 years working there before joining the Gunners last year. Berta was also the man who negotiated Álvarez’s big-money move from Manchester City to Atlético in August 2024 and is believed to still have a strong relationship with the player’s agent and camp.
Álvarez is also admired by Barcelona, but their ongoing financial problems make a deal of this size difficult. While the Argentine forward reportedly has a huge €500 million release clause, Atlético would still likely demand a fee of over €100 million if they were to even consider selling him this summer.
Since arriving in Madrid, Álvarez has been highly productive, scoring 40 goals in 85 appearances, and he remains under contract until 2030. That makes any potential transfer both expensive and complicated.
At this stage, Arsenal’s interest appears to be exploratory rather than concrete. Club officials are said to have made informal enquiries to assess whether a deal could realistically be done before deciding whether to make a more serious move later in the year.
Julian Alvarez Joining Arrival would completely change the look of Arsenal's attack
After reports of Julian Alvarez potentially being signed by Arsenal have grown, the widespread discussion is that he'll be replacing Viktor Gyökeres, who has had a mixed debut for Mikel Arteta's side since joining from Sporting Lisbon. However, we have a different opinion.
If Arsenal signs Julian Alvarez from Atlético Madrid, we believe that is the end of both Gabriel Jesus' and Kai Havertz 'time at the club. Jesus, although impressive whenever he plays, is extremely injury-prone and can't be depended on. Kai Havertz, on the other hand, has improved massively since joining Arsenal from Chelsea, but still doesn't have the required quality for a Premier League challenging club like Arsenal, and he's also suffering from recurring injury issues as well. Thus, we feel Gyökeres will be safe from any sale as Jesus and Havertz will probably leave if Alvarez joins Arsenal.
A look at Arsenal's current squad shows us that Mikel Arteta's side currently have huge depth, with the team having at least 2 top-quality players in all positions. Thus, even if Alvarez joins Arsenal, we expect him and Gyökeres to compete for the striker spot rather than the Argentine replacing the Swedish striker. Let us wait and see if the Gunners end up getting the former Manchester City forward in the Summer.
