Arsenal vs Chelsea Welbeck last-minute equaliser leaves Stamford Bridge stunned

Ten years was the amount of time it took Welbeck to score against Chelsea. Even after his tenure with Arsenal and Manchester United, the only thing which lacked in his CV was a goal against the West London side. If Welbeck’s career was a script no other moment would have surpassed this equaliser in the dying minutes of the game.

Chelsea’s life under Thomas Tuchel has drifted away from the pearly gleam of sunshine that surrounded them when they lifted the Champions League and for the first half of the season. But now Chelsea can’t turn away from the darkness which surrounds them. Each game week steals away their hope of the long-awaited Premier League title. The shimmering ray of hope of the Premier League title is swiftly fading away.

An Overview

Chelsea started brightly but soon went into slumber. Romelu Lukaku handed Chelsea a lead finding the back of the net following a corner kick from Mason Mount. Brighton started to increase their attacking threat. With almost twice the number of shots as the game passed the halfway point, Brighton shifted their attacking gear to the next level. Chelsea had a chance to double their lead as Lukaku slipped the ball in the open space for Hudson Odoi. The young winger caught in two minds set unselfishly chose to slip it to his teammate unmarked. Veltman intercepted the pass to keep his team in the game.

The fixture started to open up as the game started to reach its end. Brighton started to unload their cavalry in Chelsea’s half. Each shot was met with the cheers of the Brighton fans who stood right behind Chelsea’s goal post. With Chelsea’s defensive structure one expects them to see out the game even if a top European team stands in front of them. However, a single lapse of momentum undid all their hard work following a cross from Cucurella.

What’s next for Chelsea?

With eight points off the summit, the next two games could be a potential eliminator for Chelsea. With the quality of football, Manchester City and Liverpool can run out of their sight before Chelsea can realise. Their next two games are against Liverpool and /Manchester City. The London club will host Liverpool this weekend and a trip to Etihad Stadium next week. A single defeat can put an end to Chelsea’s title race. The next two weeks will clear the mist of uncertainty that lies at the peak of the table.
