There will be pressure on Flick’s side now to maintain the same standard of scintillating football in the 2025-26 season as they look to defend all their titles and also fulfil their quest of winning the Champions League for the first time since 2015. The new season is going to be far trickier this time, as the other La Liga challengers have undergone significant transformation to reinforce their chances. Real Madrid have started strong in a new era under Xabi Alonso as they look to reclaim their dominance, thriving in the expanded Club World Cup. Meanwhile, Los Blancos’ cross-city rivals, Atletico Madrid, are also desperate to replace the disappointments of last season and the group stage exit from the Club World Cup by making some eye-catching signings to make the title fight much closer this time. This campaign is crucial for Barcelona as they return to their iconic Camp Nou stadium after nearly two years of renovations.
The Blaugrana's 2025-26 La Liga campaign will begin on August 17, 2025, with an away match against Mallorca. This will be the first of three consecutive away games before they play their first home game at the revamped Camp Nou against Valencia on 14th September. The first El Clásico of the season will be the first major challenge for Flick’s men, to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of October. The game against Athletic Club in the following month will bring some interesting narrative after their star winger, Nico Williams, rejected Barcelona to pen a long-term contract at his club in a surprise move. The holders won’t play Colchoneros until the opening month of the New Year, while their campaign ends at Mestalla on 24th May 2026, only two weekends after they play Los Blancos in the reverse Clasico at Camp Nou.
