Bayern Munich jelled perfectly with their manager Vincent Kompany’s tactics in his second season in charge as they almost managed a sensational treble, arguably being the best side in Europe. The Bavarians had an extraordinary Bundesliga season last time, swiping their record-extending 34th title by collecting 89 points from 34 games, collecting a massive 28 wins and losing just once. They finished 16 points better at the top, with simply no one coming close to putting up a real title fight to them. Kompany’s men also reached a landmark scoring tally by netting a whopping 122 goals, the third time they have reached or crossed the century-of-goals mark and the first since the 2019-20 season.
The majority came from their galvanising striker Harry Kane’s feet, who had a mesmerising individual campaign of netting 36 goals in the league alone amid his career-best 79 goals for club and country in one season. He has now netted an emphatic 146 goals in 147 appearances for the German giants in all competitions, with many more to come.
The club went on to lift the DFB Pokal Cup for the first time since 2020 and got close to winning the Champions League, but they narrowly lost to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals on aggregate. Nevertheless, it was a season to remember for the Bayern faithful, and they will aim to go even better in the new season. Adding some fascinating signings to an already star-studded squad that went the distance last season, like exciting left-back Nathaniel Brown but most importantly African star Ismael Saibari to the feared attacking trio of Michael Olise, Luis Diaz and Kane, a statement is made.
However, the challenge will only increase for the defending champions as they will kick off a new Bundesliga season on 29 August 2026 against Stuttgart at home. They will face a tough October schedule with Leipzig and rivals Borussia Dortmund knocking on the door and also facing Mönchengladbach, Leverkusen and Frankfurt in three straight matches to begin 2027. The same trio they will face in the reverse clashes in the final month, ending with Frankfurt at home on 22 May next year, making it a difficult end to the campaign.
