Bundesliga Team of the Season 2020-21

Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Monchengladbach at home to deliver an emphatic coronation for the 2020/21 Bundesliga title in a glorious fashion. Bayern were brilliant the whole season and lost just four times so far. Leipzig are second in the table with 64 points, four points ahead of Wolfsburg. Dortmund are sitting in the fourth position and are just one point ahead of Frankfurt. They need to win their next two games to seal a spot in the Champions League next season.

So, which players have impressed in the Bundesliga this season? Let’s take a look at the Bundesliga team of the season.

The formation is a bit weird and an unbalanced 4-1-3-2, but the intention was to pick the players who have been most impressive in the German Bundesliga.

Goalkeeper – Peter Gulacsi (RB Leipzig)

The Hungarian shot-stopper, Gulacsi has been in tremendous form this season for Die Rotten Bullen. He has conceded the fewest goals this season so far (28). He has started all games for Leipzig and has also kept 15 clean sheets (most clean sheets in Bundesliga). RB Leipzig have conceded the fewest goals in the Bundesliga and Peter has definitely played his part with a lot of stunning saves. He just edges Wolfsburg's Koen Casteels to take our goalkeeper position.

Right-back – Christopher Trimmel (Union Berlin)

Always reliable, Trimmel has been a fine player for Die Eisernen. The Austrian international has performed consistently this season, scoring eight setting up 8 goals in 29 appearances for Union Berlin. Another impressive stat has been his tackles success (49%). He deserved his place in this lineup as he has been the best right back in the league this season.

Centre-back – Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

The German international Mats Hummels has been solid for Dortmund this season despite their struggles this season. He has started 31 games for BVB this season and has scored five goals in the process. Apart from that, he has maintained 87% passing accuracy throughout the season. He has made 114 clearances, and 72 interceptions, another impressive stat.

Centre-back – Willi Orban (RB Leipzig)

The 28-year-old Hungarian defender has cemented his place in the starting lineup after a series of impressive performances. He has scored four goals this season and has also managed 23 tackles. He averages 1.2 interceptions so far and has combined well with Upamecano to form one of the best defenses in the Bundesliga.

Left-back – Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund)

The 27-year-old Portuguese left-back has been brilliant this season for Dortmund. He has provided 10 assists this season and also scored four in the process. He has established himself as one of the league’s most solid left-backs as his side aims to grab the fourth Champions League spot.

Defensive Midfielder – Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)

The versatile player, Joshua Kimmich has been phenomenal for Bayern this season. Kimmich has been Bayern's anchor in the middle of the park. Without a doubt, he has been the midfielder in the Bundesliga. Kimmich has scored thrice & assisted 10 times, manages 88% passing accuracy, and 0.9 tackles per game.

Right Midfielder – Jonas Hofmann (Borussia Monchengladbach)

German winger Jonas Hofmann has been an important figure in Gladbach’s team this season. The 28-year-old has managed 58 key passes, 16 successful dribbles, 11 assists, and scored 6 goals earning him a place in the list.

Offensive Midfielder – Thomas Mueller (Bayern Munich)

Does this inclusion need to be explained? It's self-explanatory. 30 Bundesliga appearances, 11 goals, 17 assists. This means that he has been directly involved in 28 goals this season so far. He has been crucial for Bayern, helping them lift the Bundesliga title, by coming up in big games, and has been on a different level this season.

Left Midfielder – Jadon Sancho – (Borussia Dortmund)

Jadon Sancho has been in electric form this season as usual. He has been putting unreal numbers since joining Dortmund and deserves a place in this team. Sancho has scored 8 goals and managed 9 assists this season. He has completed 69 dribbles and managed 65 key passes.

Striker – Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

There was no Balon d’Or last year when the Polish striker was the frontrunner to win it. But can Lewandowski break the hold of Messi and Ronaldo this time around? Lewandowski has scored a whopping 39 goals so far and with two games remaining he can break Gerd Muller’s 40-goal record in Bundesliga. He is also set to win the European Golden Boot with almost no competition.

Striker – Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)

The 2020 Golden Boy Award winner is truly the ‘golden boy’ everyone thought of. He has adapted to life in Germany quickly and scored 25 goals in 26 appearances, while also bagging five assists. His biggest strength is scoring in important games and since joining, only Lewandowski has better numbers in the Bundesliga.
