Chelsea Create New Premier League Goalscoring Record Against Arsenal

Chelsea may have suffered a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates, but Xabi Alonso's side still made Premier League history with their blistering start to the season. Morgan Rogers gave the visitors the perfect beginning by scoring after just two minutes, continuing Chelsea's remarkable run of early goals.

The London derby subsequently turned into an unforgettable thriller, featuring end-to-end action, aggressive battles and outstanding individual performances. Arsenal eventually completed a dramatic comeback, with Kai Havertz equalising in the 25th minute before Martin Ødegaard struck five minutes into the second half to hand Mikel Arteta's side victory and give Alonso his first Premier League defeat as Chelsea manager.

Chelsea Make Premier League History

Despite losing the game, Chelsea achieved a remarkable goalscoring milestone against Arsenal.

The Blues have become the first team in Premier League history to score inside the opening five minutes of their first three matches of a season.

Chelsea had already scored inside the opening five minutes against Fulham and Brighton before Rogers continued the sequence against Arsenal. João Pedro scored the early goal against Fulham, while Roméo Lavia found the net early against Brighton, setting up the historic opportunity at the Emirates.

Rogers needed only around two minutes to make it three consecutive fast starts, producing a superb finish from the edge of the penalty area to stun the Emirates crowd.

It means Chelsea have now scored within the first five minutes in three successive Premier League matches, something no side had previously managed across its first three games of a season.

Chelsea Match Newcastle's Fast-Start Record

Chelsea's achievement also puts them in rare company in Premier League history.

The Blues are the first side to score in the opening five minutes of three consecutive Premier League games since Newcastle United achieved the feat in December 2024. However, Chelsea have gone one step further by accomplishing the feat in their first three matches of a season.

The statistic highlights just how aggressively Alonso's Chelsea have started their campaign. Rather than gradually settling into matches, the Blues have repeatedly looked to make an immediate impact and put their opponents under pressure from the opening whistle.

What next for Chelsea after Arsenal Heartbreak

Unfortunately for Chelsea, their latest fast start did not translate into another victory against Arsenal. Xabi Alonso will now face Leeds in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge, as they'll be looking to go back to winning ways once again.
