Chelsea have once again been one of the busiest clubs in the 2026 summer transfer window, continuing their aggressive recruitment strategy under the BlueCo ownership. While the Blues have invested heavily in young talent once more, there has also been a noticeable shift towards adding proven experience with the arrivals of Jordan Henderson, Danny Welbeck and Maxence Lacroix.
With several notable departures and plenty of new faces arriving at Stamford Bridge, here's how Chelsea's transfer business ranks so far.

Jordan Henderson – Grade: B+
From: Brentford (Free Transfer)
Jordan Henderson's arrival may have surprised many, but it could ultimately prove to be one of Chelsea's smartest moves of the summer.
The former Liverpool captain was not signed primarily for his footballing ability. Instead, Chelsea have brought him in to provide leadership, professionalism and experience to one of the youngest squads in European football. Those qualities have often been missing during Chelsea's inconsistent recent campaigns.
Considering he arrived on a free transfer, the deal carries virtually no financial risk. Even if Henderson doesn't become a regular starter, his influence behind the scenes could make this signing a genuine masterstroke.
Valentín Barco – Grade: B
From: Strasbourg (€40 million)
Valentín Barco is another familiar BlueCo-style signing.
The Argentine joins from Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg as another high-potential youngster expected to develop into a first-team regular. While the talent is undeniable, this follows a recruitment model Chelsea fans have become accustomed to seeing over recent transfer windows.
It's an exciting signing, but one that still carries uncertainty until Barco proves himself in the Premier League.
Danny Welbeck – Grade: A
From: Brighton (€5.9 million)
This could quietly become one of Chelsea's bargains of the summer.
Despite entering the latter stages of his career, Danny Welbeck remains an intelligent, hardworking forward capable of making decisive contributions. For under €6 million, Chelsea have added an experienced Premier League striker who can provide valuable depth.
Just as importantly, Welbeck can mentor younger forwards such as João Pedro and Liam Delap while still making a real impact off the bench. It's a low-risk signing with significant upside.
Maxence Lacroix – Grade: A
From: Crystal Palace (€60.7 million)
Chelsea desperately needed more leadership and authority in defence, and Maxence Lacroix ticks every box.
Premier League proven, physically dominant and entering his prime years, Lacroix strengthens a backline that often lacked consistency last season. Beyond his defensive qualities, he also brings valuable experience and leadership.
This looks like exactly the type of signing Chelsea required.
Morgan Rogers – Grade: B
From: Aston Villa (€138 million)
There is no questioning Morgan Rogers' enormous talent.
However, Chelsea have paid an eye-watering €138 million for the England international. While Rogers possesses the potential to become one of Europe's elite attackers, that price tag creates enormous expectations.
If he develops into a genuine world-class player, the fee will eventually be justified. Until then, it feels like Chelsea significantly overpaid.
Geovany Quenda – Grade: A
From: Sporting CP (€52.1 million)
Although agreed well before the summer officially opened, Chelsea finally welcomed one of Europe's brightest young wingers.
Geovany Quenda has enormous potential and already looks capable of becoming a future star. His pace, creativity and technical quality make him one of the most exciting arrivals of the window.
This could prove to be one of Chelsea's best long-term investments.
Marco Palestra – Grade: B
From: Atalanta (€57 million)
Chelsea moved decisively to hijack Marco Palestra's transfer from Inter Milan.
The young defender possesses tremendous potential, although Chelsea arguably paid more than necessary to secure the deal. Even so, the Italian remains an exciting prospect capable of becoming an important player over the coming years.
Emanuel Emegha – Grade: B
From: Strasbourg (€25 million)
Another player arriving through the BlueCo network, Emanuel Emegha represents another investment in youth.
The striker has plenty of physical attributes and long-term upside, but like Barco, he'll need time before supporters can properly judge the transfer.
Denner – Grade: B
From: Corinthians U20 (€10 million)
Chelsea completed this deal months ago, and it remains an exciting low-risk investment.
Denner has already earned a reputation as one of Brazil's brightest young prospects, and for just €10 million, the potential reward far outweighs the financial gamble.
Chelsea's Major Departures
Alejandro Garnacho (Loan with Buy Option)
Chelsea will hope Aston Villa make this move permanent.
Garnacho never reached the levels many expected following his arrival at Stamford Bridge, making this loan a sensible outcome for all parties. Since it's only a temporary move with an option to buy, it isn't given a transfer grade.
Andrey Santos – Grade: A
To: Manchester United
Chelsea secured a healthy transfer fee for Andrey Santos, generating a strong profit on a player who was unlikely to become a regular starter.
It's smart business and another example of Chelsea successfully monetising squad players.
Tyrique George – Grade: A
To: Everton (€21 million)
Another impressive sale.
Tyrique George departs for €21 million, representing excellent value for Chelsea while creating additional room within the squad.
Marc Cucurella – Grade: D
To: Real Madrid (€55 million)
This is undoubtedly Chelsea's biggest setback of the summer.
Cucurella had established himself as one of Chelsea's most reliable performers and further enhanced his reputation with an outstanding FIFA World Cup campaign. Beyond his performances, he was also an important leader inside the dressing room.
Receiving €55 million is respectable financially, but replacing his quality and influence will be far from easy.
Overall Verdict: Grade – B+
Chelsea's transfer window has featured plenty of familiar BlueCo investments in elite young talent, but perhaps the biggest positive has been the club's willingness to add experienced leaders like Jordan Henderson, Danny Welbeck and Maxence Lacroix.
There are still questions surrounding the sizeable fees paid for several young stars, particularly Morgan Rogers, while losing Marc Cucurella represents a significant blow. Nevertheless, Chelsea have strengthened key areas of the squad and balanced youth with experience better than in previous windows.
With time still remaining before the transfer window closes, it remains to be seen whether Xabi Alonso's Chelsea side will complete any further arrivals or departures. As things stand, however, the Blues deserve a solid B+ for their summer business.
