Chelsea vs PSG Head-to-Head Record

Chelsea and PSG have locked horns on 15 occasions in the past, with all their meetings coming in the UEFA Champions League. The pair will meet for the first time outside of Europe in the final of FIFA’s revamped Club World Cup in July 2025. The battle between the pair has been an intense one each time, with the Blues having early joy in this fixture before the Parisians took control, especially after their Qatari takeover. Overall, PSG edges the English giants with three wins to two, but the latter has scored more goals in the meetings while keeping three clean sheets compared to just one of their opposition back in 2004. However, Chelsea have not won this fixture since 2014 and have also lost the last two meetings eight years ago.

Biggest Chelsea win: PSG 0-3 Chelsea - Parc des Princes, Paris (2004/05 Champions League Group Stage)

The first-ever meeting between the pair on the Champions League stage saw Chelsea come up as dominant 3-0 winners to start the competition on a high. Captain John Terry opened the scoring on the half-hour mark before Didier Drogba found the net in each half to complete a memorable brace. With this result, the Blues also registered the biggest margin of victory in this fixture.

Biggest PSG win: PSG 3-1 Chelsea - Parc des Princes, Paris (2013-14 Champions League Quarterfinal Leg 1)

PSG’s first win in this fixture came in the third meeting with the English giants at the same venue, eight years later. By then, the Parisians had been taken over by Qatar and they were in their third season under the new ownership. Chelsea were already basking in glory under their Roman Abramovich ownership, but faced a severe challenge from the rising force. The home side took a quick lead in the quarter-final tie inside only the fourth minute of the game through Ezequiel Lavezzi, but could not hold it for long as Eden Hazard converted from the spot midway in the first half. The Belgian went close to putting the Blues into the lead before half-time, but his volley struck the post. Laurent Blanc’s side came roaring back in the second half, forcing an own goal from David Luiz from a dangerous Lavezzi free-kick to retake the lead and added to the tally through another Argentinian, Javier Pastore, off the bench, to seal a 3-1 first-leg win. However, PSG failed to hold on to their advantage as Hazard’s goal in Paris proved crucial as the Blues under Jose Mourinho progressed to the semifinal with a 2-0 win back at Stamford Bridge through the now defunct away goal rule.

High-scoring meeting: Chelsea 2-2 PSG - Stamford Bridge, London (2014-15 Champions League Round of 16 Leg 2)

The teams faced each other again in the knockouts of the Champions League, with the stage being the Round of 16 this time. The second leg of the tie became a dramatic affair at Stamford Bridge after it ended 1-1 in Paris. PSG had an away goal to replace in London, but saw their problem multiply when Zlatan Ibrahimović's challenge on Oscar earned him a straight red card in the 31st minute. The visitors now had a huge task to keep the Blues at bay for the remaining part of the game, although their defence creaked in the 81st minute when Gary Cahill slammed a volley from the corner to put his side in pole position to advance. Yet, the Parisians remarkably held their nerves in the most desperate situation to put the scores level with a corner of their own. The scorer was none other than David Luiz, who had swapped jerseys before the season, even celebrating widely in front of his ex-club supporters. The home side once again got the advantage in extra time, with Eden Hazard again haunting Laurent Blanc’s team with a 96th-minute penalty. However, José Mourinho’s team managed to bottle it again with the constant pressure from the French side, resulting in Thiago Silva rising high from a corner to score a towering header past Thibaut Courtois to make it 2-2 in the 114th minute. PSG took revenge for their elimination at the hands of the Blues last time with the most away goals scored in the tie.
