By qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026, the CONCACAF side Curacao already created a history by becoming the smallest nation by both population and area to qualify for the tournament. While the 82nd-ranked team Curacao are facing the four-time FIFA World Cup champions Germany on their FIFA World Cup debut, the Blue Wave have already proved their fearless nature early in the game.
It is a very important tournament for the joint second successful FIFA World Cup team Germany, who failed to reach the knockout stages in the last two editions after winning the 2014 edition. Without any surprise, Germany had a great start with a number of attacks. In just the first 15 minutes, they had eight shots, while Die Mannschaft got their first goal of the tournament in the sixth minute, as Felix Nmecha opened their scoreline.
Curacao equalised the scoreline in 21st minute
While Germany continued their attack, Curacao stunned with an equaliser in the 21st minute. In the counterattack, the German defenders failed to clear the ball, and Livano Comenencia’s low shot inside the penalty box found the net. It was the historic moment for the Blue Wave, while it was only their second shot in FIFA World Cup history, and they registered their first ever goal in the tournament history.
