Dominik Szoboszlai Contract

Dominik Szoboszlai has without a doubt been one of the best players for Liverpool this season, and fans would surely love to see the club hand out a contract extension to their star player in midfield. Arne Slot is immensely lucky to have the Hungarian in his side, who has saved the team on numerous occasions this season and helped them earn valuable points. In fact, Szoboszlai's unbelievably free kick against Arsenal earlier this season is sure to be remembered for a long time.

The Hungarian has been especially impressive in the Champions League for Liverpool, having scored 4 and assisted another 4 in 8 UCL appearances this season. Another major highlight of Szoboszlai is his versatility, which has seen Arne slot use him as a right-back numerous times this season. In short, Szoboszlai is the type of player any Manager would love to have in their squad.

Latest Dominik Szoboszlai statement on his contract is both positive and worrying

Dominik Szoboszlai spoke to the media after Liverpool’s convincing 4–1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday night, a result that marked the Reds’ first league victory of 2026. The midfielder reflected on the importance of getting back to winning ways, even though Liverpool remain sixth in the Premier League table. Their position was unchanged after the weekend, with both Manchester United and Chelsea also claiming victories.

The following were Szoboszlai's words to the press when enquired about an update on his contract extension:

"Nothing yet, to be honest. Nothing, from now on ... it is not in my hands. It works this way. There is no progression, but if the right offer comes then let's see.

"Let's see what happens, hopefully everyone will be happy at the end. Of course [I want to stay]. I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let's see what the future holds. It is not on me. I would love to [stay]. We will see."

Dominik Szoboszlai on playing as a right-back as Liverpool face defensive injury crisis at right-back

Injuries to Liverpool right-backs Connor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong meant Arne Slot had to once again use Szoboszlai as a right-back. This is what the Hungarian had to say regarding it:

"Not long-term, not even medium-term to be honest in my head," he said. "As I've said before, I'm a midfielder and hopefully our right-back is going to come back from injury, and I can get back in the middle. But if the team needs me, or the coach needs me there, I will play and try to give my best but now Wata [Endo] is ready to play, also Curtis [Jones] is ready to play there, so we have quite a few options now."

Szoboszlai added: "I am the type of guy who is never enough for me, I can always be better and better, so there is no limit up there. I would like to get as many goals as I can, as many assists and win as many trophies as possible. That's my plan. That's how I grew up and that's how I want to keep going."

Our opinion in Dominik Szoboszlai contract statement

If we were a Liverpool fan, we would be a bit confused and worried after hearing Dominik Szoboszlai's contract statement. Although he mentioned that he would love to stay at Liverpool, the fact that it wasn't a definite "i'd like to stay here a long time " kinda statement and him adding "it is not in my hands" is a little bit worrying. It is equally possible there is nothing to it and the player is indeed thinking of staying long-term at Anfield, but the lack of a definite answer may also mean he's potentially opening the door for a possible future move to a Real Madrid or any other top European club. We’ll have to wait and see how this situation develops, if Dominik Szoboszlai ends up doing a Trent Alexander or stay and establish himself as a Liverpool legend.
