Promotions from the EFL Championship

In the EFL Championship, a total of three teams earn promotions for the next Premier League season.

  • At the end of the EFL Championship regular league season, where all 24 teams complete their 46 matches, the top two teams in the final points table earn promotions for the next Premier League season.

  • The 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th placed teams in the final points table of the EFL Championship qualify for the Championship play-offs.

    • EFL Championship play-offs start with the two-legged Semi-finals (home and away basis). The Semi-finals are 3rd vs 6th and 4th vs 5th.

    • The winners of the two-legged Semi-finals meet in the EFL Championship play-offs Final. The winner of the Final becomes the third team to claim promotion for the next Premier League season as the Championship play-offs winner.
