English Premier League 2019/20 Season In Review | Sports Social Blog

Premier League 2019/20 came to end with the last round of fixtures on Sunday. Although some clubs went beyond expectations and performed quite well. There were clubs who faced the heat of the intensity in the Premier League and often fainted on big occasions.

But there were moments to cherish for everyone and here we are to bring them to your notice. In our bid to remember the best results of the Premier League 2019/20 season, here is the second article in this series.

The best moments of every club in the bottom half of the Premier League 2019/20 season are as follows:

Southampton: 2-0 win away at Chelsea

If a top side put 9 past your keeper in the back of the net, it's not easy to get it off your head and fight. But this is exactly what Southampton did. They have turned their season around while sticking to the same manager too. Ralph Hassenhutti's men looked in real trouble but steered themselves away from relegation. The major highlight of their campaign has to be the 2-0 away win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

Other Highlights:

  • Beating Portsmouth 4-0

  • The stunning form of Danny Ings

Everton: Appointing Carlo Ancelotti at the helm of proceedings

Everton were pretty much going nowhere under Marco Silva but to replace him with the legendary Carlo Ancelotti shocked pretty much everyone. One of the greatest managers of football has graced the Goodison Park. Although inconsistent, they have shown signs of improvement.

Other highlights:

  • Beating Chelsea 3-1 in December

  • Coming from 0-2 down to beat Watford 3-2

  • Holding Liverpool to a 0-0 draw in June

Newcastle: Reaching the quarterfinals of the FA Cup

Newcastle have quite easily survived the relegation battle -- but they haven't done it in style. They were vulnerable on too many occasions. But the top moment for the club has been their run in the FA Cup where they reached the last eight.

Other highlights:

  • Allan Saint-Maximin's performances

Crystal Palace: Beating United 2-1 away at Old Trafford

Palace won at Old Trafford for the first time since 1989. Patrick van Aanholt's injury-time winner was the perfect ending that Palace would have thought. A top moment in a season where the Eagles have been lacklustre mostly.

Other highlights:

  • Beating Brighton at the Amex Stadium in the A23 Derby.

  • 2-2 draw against Manchester City

Brighton: Beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates

After a bright start to the season under Graham Potter, Brighton fans were hopeful of a top-half finish. But it hasn't gone quite that way since as they finish at fifteenth, seven points of relegation places. But there have been plenty of moments to think about and the highlight has to be that 2-1 victory against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Other highlights:

  • Beating Tottenham 3-0

  • Opening weekend 3-0 win away at Watford

West Ham: Doing the double over Chelsea

After spending a fair whack last summer, West Ham were expected to challenge for Europe next season. But it's clear that it hasn't gone as planned as they found themselves fighting relegation instead. But they had their share of moments too. Doing the double over Frank Lampard's Chelsea was the biggest positive result of the campaign.

Other highlights:

  • Beating Manchester United 2-0 at home

  • 4-0 win over Norwich City

Aston Villa: Beating Leicester in the Carabao Cup semi-final

Their first season since the return to the Premier League has been a rather good one as they picked up pace just in time to avoid relegation. Also, they will always remember the 2019/20 season as they defeated Leicester City over two legs in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup. They certainly didn't disgrace themselves in the final too, narrowly losing 2-1 to Manchester City.

Other highlights:

  • 2-2 draw away against Manchester United in December

  • 2-1 victory over Wolves in the fourth round of the FA Cup

Bournemouth: Beating Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge

Bournemouth were always flirting in and around the relegation places. But found themselves on the wrong side of it after the last round of fixtures. But beating Chelsea 1-0 away in December will be the highlight of a rather dismal season.

Other highlights:

  • Beating Manchester United 1-0 in November

  • 3-1 away victory over Everton in GW 38

  • 4-1 win over Leicester City

Watford: Beating Liverpool 3-0 and ending their unbeaten streak

It's been a tough season for Watford as they had to change manager two times within the season itself. But they did show some signs of progress under Nigel Pearson [though for a short duration]. But the highlight of the season has to be the 3-0 victory over champions Liverpool in February. Thus, ending their unbeaten streak that stretched for more than a year.

Other highlights:

  • Beating Manchester United 2-0

  • 2-0 win over Wolves

Norwich City: Beating Manchester City 3-2

Norwich City were down and out in early February itself and the season has been a mere dismal one. Five wins and 21 points could never keep you fighting in England's top-flight league. Without doubt, their finest hour came against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City back in September, beating them 3-2.

Other highlights:

  • Beating Tottenham on penalties in the fifth round of the FA Cup

  • Holding Arsenal to a 2-2 draw
