The 1st leg of the Champions League round of 16 had some shocking results, and one of them was Galatasaray beating Arne Slot's Liverpool side 1-0. Galatasaray have had an excellent UCL campaign so far, during which they've earned huge results against the likes of Atlético Madrid and Juventus. In fact, they had already beaten Liverpool 1-0 previously this season in the group stage. However, whether they'll be able to pull off a massive upset in a 2-legged Champions League round of 16 game remains to be seen.
Victor Osimhen's side will face mammoth task as they'll have to avoid defeat at Anfield
Victor Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world, despite playing for Galatasaray, and the truth is that anything is possible for the club on their day if their star striker is in red-hot form. Liverpool haven't also been at their best this season, and are vulnerable enough for Galatasaray to shock the world next week and knock Arne Slot's side out of the UCL.
So it's not impossible that Galatasaray could shock the football world and qualify for the Champions League round of 8. However, Anfield is one of the most iconic stadiums in the world with a fan support that's guaranteed to bring out the best in most players when the situation demands it, and that means Liverpool might still end up winning this fixture on aggregate. The fact Galatasaray only has a narrow one-goal lead as well isn't much of a major advantage in this situation. One of the biggest weaknesses of Liverpool this season has been how disorganized and vulnerable that their defense has been, and if Galatasaray could somehow exploit that, then there is a chance that the Turkish side could knock out the current Premier League Champions.
We feel that if Galatasaray could somehow score an early goal in the second-leg at Anfield next week, then that could put huge pressure on the Liverpool players and then there might be a chance for Victor Osimhen and his teammates to end the night on a historic note. Galatasaray must be defensively brilliant as well if they are to make history, as their 2nd-leg UCL play-off game against Juventus saw them concede 3 goals against the Italian side and also have them make a remarkable comeback.
Our Prediction
Unless Liverpool make some kind of a massive defensive error in the beginning phase of the game and give a goal to Galatasaray, we see no chance for the Turkish side to qualify for the Champions League round of 16. This should be a comfortable victory for the Reds at Anfield, where the crowd is sure to be immensely passionate and motivate the players.
If the Turkish side does end up shocking the football world by qualifying for the next UCL stage, then Arne Slot is likely to be sacked by Liverpool before things go from bad to worse.
