Gavi injury update

A new report from beIn Sports has delivered promising injury news in regards to Barcelona star Gavi, who has been out for a long time. Gavi picked up an injury in September and had to undergo arthroscopic surgery to fix a tear in the inner meniscus of his knee. It’s the same knee that troubled him again back in November 2023, raising concerns about its long-term durability. Doctors had estimated a recovery period of around four to five months at the time, which meant that the Barcelona midfielder is expected to be back in action by the end of February if everything goes according to plan.

Barcelona injury news: New Gavi Update is a Positive for Hansi Flick and the fans

The beIn Sports article has confirmed that Gavi’s comeback is edging closer. The Barcelona midfielder is nearly fully recovered and has begun easing back into the team’s routine. Over the past few days, he’s focused on gym work to rebuild strength and spent time with the physiotherapy staff. Encouragingly, he’s now back on the pitch too, starting light running and football-specific drills as he takes the next steps toward a full return.

The next big step will be rejoining full training with his teammates, which the club expects could happen in around ten days, either sometime next week or, at the latest, the week after. His situation will be monitored closely every day, with decisions based on how his knee reacts.

Once he’s back training with the group, attention will turn to when he can return to competitive action. A mid-February comeback is currently seen as realistic, but that timeline will depend on how he handles the first few sessions with the team.

Head coach Hansi Flick has stressed that there will be no rushing Gavi back. Even though this injury is different from his previous one, Flick prefers a careful, step-by-step approach to make sure the midfielder reaches full fitness. Gavi is on the same page, especially with the World Cup on the horizon, knowing that being fully fit is more important than coming back too early.

What Next for Barcelona?

Barcelona will be facing Oviedo in La Liga this weekend, and they'll be hoping to have Gavi back as soon as possible, especially with star player Pedri recently suffering an unfortunate injury.
