Harry Kane Records vs Real Madrid in Quarterfinal Second Leg

The second leg of the 2025-26 Champions League quarterfinal tie between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at Allianz Arena was truly a spectacle, with the Bavarians ultimately progressing to the semifinals with a 6-4 aggregate win. There was the man again for the home side who produced the wonders at the time of asking, as he has been doing all season long, grabbing the spotlight in the victory. It was Harry Kane’s strike in the Santiago Bernabeu that gave the Bundesliga giants a 2-1 advantage to take back home, but the deficit was swept aside just 35 seconds after kick-off as Arda Guler scored into an empty net from a distance following a howler from first-leg hero keeper Manuel Neuer. Although Bayern retook the advantage shortly after, another Neuer error allowed Guler to complete his brace directly from a free-kick.

It was from there that the talismanic striker took charge to make sure the evening belonged to Bayern. With the side stepping up their intensity, center-back Dayot Upamecano strode forward to play an accurate defence-splitting pass to Kane, who found the bottom right corner easily in the 38th minute. That strike helped the England captain unlock a series of milestones in the Champions League and beyond. However, he wasn’t done yet. After Los Blancos climbed back into the tie again through Kylian Mbappe only minutes before half-time and then went a man down with Eduardo Camavinga sent off for a second yellow with just four minutes of normal time left on the clock, the former Spurs player showed his playmaking ability this time as he played in Michael Olise for an emphatic curler that settled the tie with Luis Diaz already finding the scoresheet before.

That performance, among the many he has shown this season, once again reinstated the conversation of Harry Kane winning the Balon d’Or this season. While that honour depends on trophies, with Bayern now three games away from the Champions League title and the FIFA World Cup is also playing a major role in decision-making this year, Kane is looking increasingly worthy of the prize just purely on his incredible individual season. More importantly, the 2025-26 campaign has underlined his evolution from a prolific domestic striker, a trait which was always there from his Tottenham days, into a true European force. The Champions League turned into his feeding ground and he looks to be on course to create an enduring legacy with those second-leg heroics.

Here are the records Harry Kane set against Real Madrid in the Champions League 2025-26  quarterfinal second leg:

New personal Best

That was Harry Kane’s 12th strike in the competition this season so far, surpassing the previous record of 11 goals, which he himself set in the previous season with Bayern Munich. He trails only Kylian Mbappé, who has scored 15, for the competition’s Golden Boot race this season.

Half a century strike

Kane also became the first English player to score 50 goals for a top-flight side since Tom Waring of Aston Villa in the 1930–31 season, breaking a record that stood for a massive 95 years. No other player of his nationality has managed to score half a century of goals in a single season in the 21st century. Only Messi in 2012/13 needed fewer games than Harry Kane to reach 50 club goals in a season.

Elite Club

This marks the first time in his professional career that Kane has surpassed 50 club goals in a single campaign, beating his previous record of 44 goals set in 2023-24. With that, he joins an elite group of players in the 21st century to record a 50+ goal season for a club in Europe's top five leagues, alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suárez, Robert Lewandowski, and Erling Haaland.

Most Goals by an Englishman in UEFA Club Competitions

By reaching 71 goals across all UEFA club competitions, the striker became the first Englishman to ever hit the 70-goal mark on the European stage. He also surpassed Italian legend Filippo Inzaghi after reaching the milestone.

Successive Appearances with a Goal

The former Spurs man showed his unreal consistency in front of goal, especially in the Champions League, despite suffering an injury that kept him out for some time. Kane got in the scoresheet instantly after his first start since returning to fitness in the first leg and now adding to the tally in the return leg at home. That also marked the first time he had scored in five successive appearances in the Champions League.

Nightmare for Real Madrid

Real Madrid has turned out to be the favourite opponent for Harry Kane in the competition after facing them more frequently since his move to Bayern Munich in 2023. He has now had a goal involvement in five successive games against Los Blancos, scoring for the third straight game in this fixture while providing three assists. It sets the record for the longest such streak against the Spanish giants in the competition's history.

Scoring monster

Since joining Bayern Munich, Harry Kane has been involved in 12 or more goals in three straight Champions League seasons. The only other player to do so is Cristiano Ronaldo, who managed it in seven seasons in a row between 2011/12 and 2017/18. He is also only the second English player to have scored in five consecutive UEFA Champions League games after Steven Gerrard did it for Liverpool in the 2007/08 season.
