With the completion of the 2019/2020 Premier League season and Chelsea cementing their Champions League spot, it is now time to focus on transfer deals to improve the squad for next season. The two windows transfer ban that the Blues have suffered have made them looked inward for players that improve their squad for the last season.

That was why several academy players were able to flourish under the steward of Frank Lampard. Players like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Recce James and many more have had their time and have shown that they are capable of doing great things for the club. To however improve on their performance this season, they need to strengthen on some key positions. That is why this Premier League summer transfers is key and they have to get them right.

Some additions have already been made with the signings of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Lipzig. Both players will add great quality to their attack that already have Christian Pulisic that is doing wonders in his first season in England.

These two additions need to be seen as very good deals that the reward is instant and long term. With Ziyech, Pulisic, Werner, Abraham, and Mount, it is almost a given that Chelsea have great players that will be around for the next five years or more to build a team around and take them back to the glory days when the likes of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and John Terry were key to their success story.

It is now left for Lampard to know how to manage them and bring the best out of all of them and keep them happy as they all will want to start. With enough games around in the Champions League, Premier League, FA cup and Carabao cup, there will be enough games to go round for everyone to play.

However, there are still some things to work on the squad which will need addition. Chelsea concede loads of goals last season and that cannot repeat itself if they want to challenge for the title next season. A team that concede 54 games in the league need to find a way around that defense.

There are two ways around it, either beef up the defense or build a team that is very good with ball retention and doesn’t expose the backline, something similar to what Manchester City do. The potential signing of Bayern Leverkusen Kai Havertz could help achieve ore ball retention and advance play but the latter will take a lot more to accomplish even if Havertz eventually move to Stanford Bridge. It is best getting good backline that will inspire confidence even if the midfield has been bridged.

There are defenders that have been linked with Chelsea that can be quick fix to their problem. Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is a potential target that should be easy to get over the line at the right price. The England international will solve the left back position that have been a point to exploit the Blues. Chilwell comes with both attacking and defending quality that will be an upgrade on Marcos Alonso or having to push Cesar Azpilicueta there.

The goalkeeping slot is a major concern for Lampard going into next season as it seems he is willing to bring in another goalkeeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga who has had a disastrous season for the Blues. The Blues defense have been poor but Kepa have not cover himself in glory this season and have given the club no other option than to look for another number one.

Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak is the perfect payer Lampard is looking at but he seems to be a reach as the Spanish club is not willing to lose another keeper to Chelsea. Manchester United’s Dean Henderson who is on loan at Sheffield United is one that will be a quick fix but United are also holding up on keeping him rather than losing him to a rival. Ajax’s Andre Onana is a backup option of either of Oblak or Henderson is becoming too hard to complete.

If Chelsea can get a new goalkeeper, a center back, a left back, Kia Harvertz to add to Ziyech and Werner, they will definitely be in the running for the Premier League title and it would have been a perfect window for the Blues.
