Brentford's Jaidon Anthony stuns Chelsea

Jaidon Anthony was one of the standout performers as Brentford stunned Chelsea 3-0 in a statement Premier League victory at the Gtech Community Stadium. After a goalless first half, Brentford completely took control after the break, with Anthony opening the scoring before Igor Thiago doubled the hosts' advantage. Fábio Carvalho then added a third in stoppage time to complete a memorable win for the Bees. The result moved Brentford up to third while extending Chelsea's winless run to three league matches.

For Anthony, the goal was another important moment in what has already been an eventful career. But who is Jaidon Anthony, and how did the Brentford winger arrive at this stage of his career?

Who is Jaidon Anthony?

Jaidon Kya Denley Anthony is an English professional footballer born on December 1, 1999, in Hackney, London. Standing at 6ft tall, he primarily operates as a left winger but can also play as a left midfielder or forward.

Anthony currently wears the No. 19 shirt for Brentford, having joined the club in July 2026. He signed a four-year contract, with Brentford holding an option for another year. The transfer fee was reported to be £15 million, potentially rising to £17 million with add-ons.

Jaidon Anthony's Early Career

Anthony began his football education at Arsenal, spending a decade in the club's academy between 2006 and 2016. During his time there, he trained alongside players who would go on to become Premier League stars, including Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson.

After leaving Arsenal, Anthony joined Bournemouth's academy in 2016, where he spent the next four years developing before making the jump into senior football.

His first senior experience came during a loan spell at Weymouth in the National League South in 2020. He made his debut in a 5-1 victory over Maidstone United before scoring his first senior goal later that season in a 3-2 win against Dorking Wanderers.

Bournemouth Breakthrough

Anthony made his Bournemouth first-team debut on December 2, 2020, against Preston North End. Despite Bournemouth losing 3-2, Anthony immediately made an impact by providing an assist for Sam Surridge.

His breakthrough came during the 2021-22 Championship campaign. Anthony established himself as an important attacking player, scoring eight league goals and providing a number of assists as Bournemouth secured promotion to the Premier League.

He was particularly impressive during November 2021, scoring four goals and registering an assist to win Bournemouth's Player of the Month award.

Anthony subsequently made 34 appearances across all competitions during Bournemouth's 2022-23 Premier League campaign, scoring three goals.

Leeds United and Burnley Spells

Looking for more regular football, Anthony joined Leeds United on loan for the 2023-24 season as part of a deal involving Luis Sinisterra. He scored his first Leeds league goal in a 3-0 victory over Watford.

In August 2024, Anthony returned to the Championship with Burnley, initially joining on loan. The move proved successful enough for Burnley to make the transfer permanent in May 2025.

During his time at Burnley, Anthony became a productive attacking option. Across the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, he scored 16 league goals in 78 appearances, including eight goals in each campaign.

Why Did Brentford Sign Jaidon Anthony?

On July 7, 2026, Jaidon Anthony completed his move to Premier League side Brentford, signing a four-year contract with the club. Brentford also have the option to extend his deal by another year

Brentford's decision to spend up to £17 million on Anthony reflects their belief that the winger still has considerable potential to develop.

His versatility is particularly useful. Although naturally a left winger, Anthony can operate in several attacking positions, giving Brentford additional flexibility.

He also arrived with considerable Premier League experience from his Bournemouth spell, meaning the 2026-27 season is not his first exposure to top-flight football.

His performance against Chelsea suggests Brentford have found an exciting attacking weapon. Anthony's ability to contribute goals while stretching opposition defences could make him an important part of Keith Andrews' team.

What Next for Jaidon Anthony?

At 26, Anthony is entering an important stage of his career. His journey from Arsenal's academy to Bournemouth, Leeds, Burnley and now Brentford has been anything but straightforward.

After scoring against Chelsea in a memorable 3-0 Brentford victory, Anthony has already given Brentford supporters a glimpse of what he can offer.

If he can maintain this level of performance, the summer signing could prove to be another smart piece of recruitment for the Bees.
