Liverpool have officially confirmed that club legend Jurgen Klopp will return to Anfield as he has joined the Liverpool FC Legends management team for an upcoming charity game against Borussia Dortmund Legends. Klopp will be assisting another Liverpool legend in the Anfield dugout, Sir Kenny Dalglish. Jürgen Klopp spent nine memorable years managing the Reds, leading them to historic Premier League and Champions League triumphs. Now working as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, Klopp is set to return to Liverpool’s home ground in March for a special occasion, marking an emotional reunion with the club and its fans.
Jurgen Klopp: The legend who turned Liverpool from doubters into believers
When Jürgen Klopp arrived at Liverpool in 2015 from Borussia Dortmund, the club was far from title contenders. Under his leadership, Liverpool rose to the very top, winning the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup. Klopp’s intense, high-energy style transformed the team and restored their global stature, making his emotional farewell at Anfield in May 2024 a truly special moment. The following were his iconic words inside the stadium during the farewell
"People told me that I turned them from doubters into believers. That's not true. You did it. That is a big difference. Nobody tells you to stop believing. This club is in a better moment than in a long time. We have this wonderful stadium, wonderful training centre and you - the superpower of world football. Wow.
“I saw a lot of people crying and it will happen to me tonight because I will miss people. But change is good. You never know what to expect but if you go with the right attitude into that then everything will be fine because the basics are 100 per cent there. You go full-throttle into it and welcome the new manager like you welcomed me. You go all in from the first day. When it is hard, you keep believing and you push the team. I am one of you now. I love you to bits. I will never walk alone again. Thank you. You are the best people in the world. Thank you!”
Jurgen Klopp returns to Liverpool for special match involving several club legends
Jürgen Klopp will make a special return to Anfield on 28 March, stepping back into the dugout for a legends charity match between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. Although Klopp has visited Anfield a few times since leaving Liverpool, this occasion is particularly meaningful as it reunites him with both of his former clubs.
The match will be played during the March international break in support of the LFC Foundation, with club legend Steven Gerrard captaining the Reds. Klopp will serve as assistant to Kenny Dalglish, adding another emotional layer to the event. As an honorary ambassador for the foundation, Klopp’s involvement highlights his continued bond with Liverpool, with all proceeds from the game going to the LFC Foundation and Forever Reds.
Back in July 2024, Klopp said the following on the foundation:
"The LFC Foundation does an incredible job in the community, both in the Liverpool City Region and beyond. I am really proud to continue my work with them and be named the first-ever LFC Foundation honorary ambassador. I look forward to seeing what we can do with that now that I have more time on my hands."
Our opinion
Jurgen Klopp has always proven himself to be much more than a fantastic manager, as he's also a special and unique individual as well. His latest reunion with the club is for such a heartwarming reason, and all football clubs should be holding more such charity matches.
As for Liverpool fans, they'll get to see their legendary manager in Anfield again, and some might even wish how the German could just take control of the first-team again as calls grow louder from fans to sack Arne Slot.
