La Liga 2020/21 season has already started earlier this month. Eibar played out a draw against Celta Vigo in the opening game of the season at home. Defending champions Real Madrid opened their La Liga campaign with a goalless draw away from home against Real Sociedad. Newly promoted Cadiz have played two games and won once.

In the past few decades, La Liga has attracted several top players from different leagues. The Spanish top-flight is among the most-watched and marketed leagues in the world. Several big money signings have taken place with the likes of Pjanic, Trincao and Oscar Rodriguez joining new La Liga clubs. There’s still so much time left for the transfer window to end and many top players are linked with a move to La Liga.

In this article, we take a look at the best transfers to watch out for in La Liga this season:

1. Trincao – FC Barcelona

After watching the three friendly games Barcelona played, it’s safe to say that they have finally found a player who can play on the right wing and has the ability and talent to replace Messi (not in terms of greatness or consistency but positionally). He has previously played as a wide right midfielder at SC Braga and has the experience of playing on the right-wing. Barcelona bought him for 31 million euros from SC Braga and will expect him to settle in fast and relieve some pressure off Messi.

2. Dani Parejo – Villarreal

Valencia had a transfer exodus at their club as they sold most of their starters from the last season due to several reasons. One of the decisions that can hurt them the most is the departure of Dani Parejo. It’s safe to say that Parejo is the best midfielder apart from the top three. He has remained consistent throughout the years and has wreaked havoc with his set-pieces and key passes. Villarreal have got a gem of a player in Parejo and all that for? FREE!

3. Ivan Rakitic – Sevilla

Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic has reunited with Sevilla again after spending half a decade at Barcelona winning all trophies a player could. Rakitic had a brilliant career at Barcelona as he helped the Catalans win their fifth Champions League in his first season. However, in his last two seasons, he was blamed and criticized for underperforming. But despite all that, the Croat’s determination and work ethic can’t be undermined. He still has a lot to offer and we expect Sevilla to bring out the best from him again. Sevilla paid just 1.5 million for the midfielder.

4. Oscar Rodriguez – Sevilla

2019/20 La Liga season can be called a successful season for Seville as they managed to get into the top four and also won the Europa League for a record sixth time. Lopetegui has brought out the best from Los Rojiblancos. They have also made some good signings including Oscar Rodrigues for 13.5 million Euros. Oscar spent his last two seasons on loan at Leganes. Last season, despite Leganes’ relegation, he managed to score 9 goals and bag 2 assists from 30 games. His contributions for Leganes attracted interest from Sevilla and he will be a player to watch out for this season as Sevilla push to close the gap for the top three.

5. David Silva – Real Sociedad

Lazio were very close to signing David Silva as a free agent but the former Manchester City midfielder was snapped up by Real Sociedad. David Silva still has a lot to offer and he will be a player to watch out for this season. Odegaard left Sociedad after a season on loan and that void could be filled by Silva. Despite playing 34 games in his last season at the Etihad, Silva showed no signs of slowing down and remained consistent. Sociedad will be hoping for the Spaniard to contribute similar numbers in the 2020/21 season.

Other notable transfers in:

  • Miralem Pjanic – FC Barcelona

  • Shon Weissman – Real Valladolid

  • Pedri – FC Barcelona

  • Alvaro Negredo – Cadiz

  • Pervis Estupinan – Villarreal
