The season has ended, the positions decided and the trophies are given out. Now what? Euros of course, but other than that we take a look at the wonderkids who were touted to be the next generational talent.
We take a look at their form last season:
Real Madrid // Rodrygo Silva de Goes // 20 // Brazil
Rodrygo, mostly a right-winger, had a breakout season in 2019/20, playing 29 matches for Real in all categories and scoring 9 goals and adding 3 assists. He had a satisfactory season for the Los Blancos this time out with 2 goals and 8 assists out of 33 matches. The young Brazilian will be aiming to make the most use of his time in Real, with his various talents including close ball handling, first touch, and dribbling skills.
FC Barcelona // Ansu Fati // 18 // Spain
The 18-year-old youngster made his La Liga debut versus Real Betis in a 5-2 home triumph on Matchday 2 of the 2019/20 season, the first of 33 games in all competitions that yielded 8 goals and 1 assist. This season didn’t see Fati play a lot of games for the Catalonia outfit but still had quite good stats. Scoring 5 and assisting 4 out of 10 games for the Blaugrana is good enough a record when a person is just 18. Plus, with Messi thought to be on the move, Ansu Fati has a long road to go and a pretty bigger role to play down the line.
Atlético de Madrid // Manu Sanchez // 20 // Spain
Last season out in 19/20, the Spanish Under 21 international played five times in La Liga and 24 times in the Spanish third division for Atletico de Madrid B. Renan Lodi, Atleti's regular starting left defender, was certainly difficult to replace permanently, but with both domestic and European commitments, Sanchez's minutes were expected to grow in 2020/21. But eventually, he was loaned out to Osasuna where he got some first-team action, playing a total of 19 times for the Spanish side.
Sevilla FC // Bryan Gil // 20 // Spain
Gil, who can play from either flank, was also the first player born in the twenty-first century to score a La Liga goal in 2018/19 and spent 2019/20 on a loan spell at Leganes. Bryan Gill got loaned out again this season, this time to Eibar, in which he had a solid season, scoring and assisting four each in 30 appearances. With a chance to play first-team football for Seville in the coming season, his future appears brighter.
Real Sociedad CF // Ander Barrenetxea // 19 // Spain
In all tournaments, Spain Under 19 international earned 23 appearances for La Real in 2019/20. This season saw him play 40 games for the Basque Country side mainly as a sub, but still score 3 goals over the year. It was a mediocre season for him but with a lot of game time.
