Lamine Yamal continues to create history, as broke more Champions League records and surpassed Kylian Mbappé after his heroics in Barcelona's 4-1 win over Copenhagen. The Spanish winger has been brilliant in the Champions League so far, scoring 3 and assisting another 3 in just 5 UCL games. Lamine Yamal has been fantastic in La Liga as well, as he has scored 8 and assisted another 8 in just 16 league appearances. He is one of the key reasons Hansi Flick's side are currently standing first in La liga.
Lamine Yamal breaks multiple Champions League records he surpasses Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé
Lamine Yamal made Champions League history with his goal against Copenhagen, becoming the youngest player to reach eight goals in the competition at 18 years and 199 days. He surpassed the previous record held by Kylian Mbappé.
It’s not the first time the Barcelona youngster has taken a record from Mbappé, last season, he also became the youngest goalscorer in a Champions League semi-final. Additionally, Yamal has now scored and assisted in a Champions League match three times, a feat he currently shares with Mbappé.
Our opinion on Lamine Yamal's record breaking performances
Kylian Mbappe has been on a record breaking run for Real Madrid at the moment, as he's scoring for fun at the moment. Lamine Yamal is having a similar impact for Barcelona, although one could argue that Yamal's influence on his team is more complete than Mbappe as his stats reflect equal or balanced contribution of goals and assists.
The unbelievable and scary thing though, is Lamine Yamal is 9 years younger than Mbappe, who is 27 years old. The fact Yamal is breaking all these records and performing at such a high level is simply unbelievable. With fitness technology advancing like never before, we could even see someone like Yamal playing at the highest level of football for the next 15-17 years at the minimum provided he doesn't suffer any injuries. What he goes on to achieve during this timeframe is anyone's guess. Our prediction is that this player is a special once-in-a-lifetime talent who'll end up with multiple Champions League titles, Ballon d'Ors, and a FIFA World Cup. The sky is the limit for Yamal, and it's still only the beginning.
