Still only 19 years old, the Spanish superstar has already won the two biggest trophies available in international football. Yamal entered the 2026 World Cup as one of Spain's biggest attacking threats after being selected in the country's 26-man squad on May 25.
He scored his first-ever World Cup goal on June 21 during Spain's dominant 4–0 victory over Saudi Arabia. The goal saw Yamal become only the second player aged 18 or younger since Pelé in 1958 to score the opening goal of a World Cup match.
His influence continued into the knockout rounds.
Yamal was named Man of the Match as Spain defeated Austria 3–0 in the Round of 32. His exceptional ability to beat defenders was a major feature of his tournament, with the winger averaging 12 dribbles per 90 minutes, the highest figure recorded at a World Cup since Nigeria legend Jay-Jay Okocha in 1998.
The teenager also made his presence felt in Spain's crucial semi-final against France. Yamal won a penalty after being fouled by Lucas Digne, allowing Mikel Oyarzabal to convert from the spot and open the scoring in Spain's eventual 2–0 victory.
That result sent La Roja into the World Cup final, where they defeated Argentina 1–0 to become world champions.
Yamal consequently became the third-youngest player ever to appear in a World Cup final, behind only Brazil legend Pelé and Italy's Giuseppe Bergomi, while also securing his place in history as the youngest player to win both the World Cup and Euros.
