Yamal Chasing Historic Spain Record
If Yamal scores three times during the upcoming Nations League window, he would become the youngest player in Spain's history to score 10 international goals at age 19.
That would see him break a record currently associated with one of Spanish football's greatest-ever forwards, Real Madrid legend Raúl González.
Raúl was already a prolific goalscorer for both club and country during his illustrious career, and he previously held the record for being the youngest Spanish player to reach 10 goals for the national team.
According to available records, Raúl was 21 years and 277 days old when he scored his 10th goal for Spain.
The former Real Madrid captain reached that landmark on June 5, 1999, finding the net against San Marino in a UEFA Euro 2000 qualifying match.
More than two decades later, Yamal now has the opportunity to take that record away from one of Real Madrid's most iconic players.
Yamal is Destined to Break Raúl's Record
Yamal needs just three goals during the upcoming Nations League matches to reach double figures.
He has already become an important attacking figure for Spain despite his age, & the Barcelona star will have every reason to believe he can achieve the feat within the first phase of Nations League games.
Breaking Raúl's record would also further underline just how extraordinary Yamal's international rise has been. While Raúl needed to reach his 21st birthday before hitting 10 goals, Yamal could potentially accomplish the same feat at a significantly younger age.
For Spain, meanwhile, Yamal's Continued rise represents another reason for optimism. Having already helped the nation lift the World Cup, the Barcelona wonderkid now has another piece of history within touching distance.
Three goals in the Nations League could therefore give Yamal another iconic record and officially see him overtake a Real Madrid legend in the Spanish national team's history books.
