Chelsea host Liverpool tomorrow at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League round two game. New signings Chilwell, Ziyech and Silva are unavailable alongside Pulisic. Liverpool doesn’t miss any starters and will deploy their strongest lineup tomorrow. Chelsea won their first game of the season comfortably against Brighton at the Community Stadium. They will be looking forward to extending their perfect start to the campaign with two wins from two games. Liverpool, on the other side, have signed Thiago and are again one of the strongest contenders for the Premier League title.

Without further ado, let's take a look at the last five meetings between Chelsea and Liverpool:


1. Liverpool 5-3 Chelsea (Premier League) – 23rd July 2020:

Goalscorers: Keita (23’), Trent (38’), Wijnaldum (43’), Firmino (55’), Oxlade-Chamberlain (84’) | Giroud (45+3’), Tammy (61’), Pulisic (73’)

Liverpool ended their 2019-20 Premier League at home with a win and lifted their first Premier League title at the Kop. Liverpool scored three goals in the first half with Keita, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Wijnaldum on the scoresheet. The Blue got one back late in the first half through Giroud. However, just after the second-half kickoff, Roberto Firmino scored Liverpool’s fourth through a thumping header from Trent’s cross. Tammy Abraham came off the bench and scored Chelsea’s second. Pulisic had a big hand in the second goal. Pulisic scored Chelsea’s third and brought the Blues back into the game. However, in the 84th min Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored Liverpool’s fifth goal to win the tie for the Reds. A loss meant that Chelsea needed to at least bag a draw in their last game to qualify for the Champions League.

 

2. Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool (FA Cup) – 4th March 2020:

Goalscorers: Willian (13’), Barkley (64’)

Chelsea hosted the Reds at Stamford Bridge for the FA Cup round 5 match. Liverpool made seven changes to their squad from the loss against Watford. Lampard also made six changes from Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth. Willian opened the scoring for the Blues in the 13th min as he took a shot from outside the box. Ross Barkley scored the second goals for the Blues through a fantastic individual effort as he picked up the ball from his own half and hammered past Adrian from range. A victory meant that Chelsea now had seven wins from their 11 FA Cup meetings with Liverpool, including 2012 final.

 

3. Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool (Premier League) – 22nd September 2019

Goalscorers: Kante (71’) | Trent (14’), Firmino (30’)

Chelsea hosted Liverpool for the sixth round of the Premier League at Stamford Bridge. Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the opening goal for the Reds by firing the ball straight into the top right corner. Chelsea were denied their equalizer by Azpilicueta as Mount was spotted offside during the buildup by VAR. Four minutes later, Firmino scored Liverpool’s second through a header from Robertson’s freekick. Kante scored in the 71st minute as he made the run to the edge of the box and fired his effort past Adrian. Liverpool’s perfect start continued with an away victory.

 

4. Liverpool (p) 2-2 Chelsea (UEFA Super Cup) – 14th August 2019

Goalscorers: Sadio Mane (48', 95') | Giroud (36'), Jorginho (101')

Liverpool clinched the UEFA Super Cup on penalties after a thrilling game which ended in a draw after extra time. The game ended 1-1 after 90 mins with goals from Giroud and Mane. Mane doubled the scoreline for Liverpool in the first half of extra time. Jorginho brought the Blues back by scoring a penalty and sending the game to penalties. Adrian saved Tammy Abraham's penalty and Liverpool won the UEFA Super Cup.

 

5. Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea (Premier League) – 14th April 2019

Goalscorers: Mane (51'), Salah (53')

Liverpool won their first game against Chelsea at Anfield since 2012 when they beat the Blues 2-0. Mane and Salah scored in quick succession to hand Liverpool all three points. Liverpool reclaimed the top spot, albeit having played one game more than City
