Liverpool Interested in Micky van de Ven

A report from the Daily Mail has claimed that Liverpool have genuine interest in signing Micky van de Ven from Tottenham, although any transfer would be tricky to pull off. Arne Slot's side have struggled immensely in defense this season, with Virgil Van Dijk past his peak years and Ibrahima Konate being stuck in a complicated contract situation that has made his performances quite disappointing this season. Liverpool had earlier signed promising young defender Giovanni Leoni earlier in the Summer Transfer Window from Parma, but the 19 year old suffered a torn ACL during his Carabao Cup debut for the Reds. Thus, he'll be out for a long time. Another option in defense for the Reds is Joe Gomez, who is quite Injury-prone despite his quality. The situation is thus a dangerous one for Liverpool, and signing a top-quality centre back looks to be a must at this point.

Liverpool Target Micky van de Ven's time at Tottenham Hotspur so far

In August 2023, Micky van de Ven completed a big move to Tottenham Hotspur, signing a six-year contract with the Premier League side. Spurs paid an initial £34.5 million for the Dutch defender, a fee that could rise to £43 million, matching the club’s then-record transfer fee for a centre-back.

Van de Ven made an immediate impact, starting Tottenham’s opening game of the 2023–24 season away at Brentford. Just a few weeks later, in October, he scored his first goal in English football, netting the winner in a narrow 1–0 victory over Luton Town. His strong start was briefly interrupted in November when he suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea, but he returned in January 2024 and quickly reminded everyone of his athleticism. Later that month, he made headlines by becoming the fastest player ever recorded in the Premier League, clocking an astonishing speed of 37.38 km/h. His performances throughout the season earned him Tottenham’s Player of the Season award in May 2024.

The 2024–25 campaign proved more challenging, as injuries limited his appearances across domestic and European competitions. Despite these setbacks, van de Ven once again topped the Premier League speed charts. His season had a perfect ending, though, as he started the UEFA Europa League final and produced a vital goal-line clearance to help Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0, securing his first major trophy and Spurs’ first silverware in 17 years.

In the 2025–26 season, van de Ven has continued to grow as a leader. He captained Tottenham for the first time in the Champions League, scoring in a 2–2 draw away to Bodø/Glimt, and later produced a memorable box-to-box solo goal in a dominant win over Copenhagen, underlining his importance at both ends of the pitch. The Dutch defender has been Impressive for Spurs in the 2025/26 Premier League as well.

Will Liverpool sign Micky van de Ven from Spurs?

Tottenham have always been a club that's known to be extremely tough to negotiate with, so any chance of a January transfer deal seems unlikely. Moreover, van de Ven has a contract till 2029 for the club, which gives the power to Spurs during negotiations. Any possible move looks likely only during the 2026 Summer Transfer Window, and it'll surely take a huge bid from Liverpool to get van de Ven.
