The Premier League has always been known for its competitiveness. Last season, it was more of a two-horse race between the two clubs which went on till the final day of the season and this season has been no different.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are two of the best managers in England. Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero are two of the best forwards. And you also have Virgil Van Dijk vs Aymeric Laporte, two of the best centre-backs in the league. Liverpool and Manchester City have all the ingredients to be English football's next big rivalry.
A big rivalry is in the making. Here is a look at some of the key factors that have led to this rivalry:

Klopp vs Guardiola

It does not get bigger than this: two top-quality managers who demand top-quality football. Back in the days, it was the Ferguson-Wenger rivalry, and City and Liverpool look capable of recreating exactly that.
Klopp has had Guardiola's number in recent years. Guardiola has often been forced to abandon or slightly change his core principles against Klopp's men in recent times. He has never been beaten to a league title by Klopp, but with Liverpool's consistent performances in the first eight games of the season, things could end up differently this time around.

Liverpool breaking the bank

This is something you usually associate with City. After a record-breaking season, it looked like Pep Guardiola's team would dominate the league for several years to come. But after spending large amounts of money last summer, Liverpool have enhanced their position as the only club in England that could challenge City this season.

With an eight-point lead after eight gameweeks, this year may finally be Liverpool's year.

Mohamed Salah vs Kevin De Bruyne

These are the two standout players in English football. De Bruyne had struggled with injuries last season, but there is no doubt that City are an entirely different team when the Belgian plays.

He was undoubtedly the best player for City in their record-breaking season with eight goals and 16 assists, but was beaten to the individual awards by Salah, who has gone on to bag back-to-back Golden Boots.

There has been a big debate between the fans on who is the better player and that debate looks set to continue for years to come.

Lack of competition from other teams

The Premier League has always been known for its competitiveness. But last season was all about Liverpool and City and this season has been no different thus far.

United would like to believe that their rivalries with City and Liverpool are bigger than any other rivalry. History may say corroborate that too. But at present, they are a long way away from them.

Right now, Liverpool vs City is THE rivalry in the league.
