Manchester City secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Erling Haaland once again delivering when it mattered most. The Norwegian striker scored the only goal of the Manchester derby in the 60th minute, taking his tally to nine goals in the fixture and making him the all-time leading goalscorer in Manchester derby history. City were forced to play with 10 men after Phil Foden was sent off in the 23rd minute, but United failed to take advantage of their numerical superiority. Despite registering 16 shots and 54% possession, the hosts managed only three attempts on target. Gianluigi Donnarumma then produced a sensational late save to deny Bryan Mbeumo and preserve City's victory.

Manchester United Overall Performance

This was a shocking performance from Manchester United, one that exposed not only the gulf in talent between the two clubs but, perhaps more worryingly, the gulf in mentality.

United had the advantage of playing against 10 men for more than an hour, yet they still struggled to impose themselves on the game. The statistics underline the frustration: despite having 54% possession and 16 shots, United could not find the breakthrough.

Bruno Fernandes, the club captain and arguably United's most important player, endured a frustrating afternoon. His petulance and visible frustration did little to inspire those around him. When the team's main man displays that kind of mentality in a match of this magnitude, it becomes difficult to expect the rest of the side to respond differently.

There was also a shocking late miss from Bryan Mbeumo, although Fernandes deserves credit for producing an excellent pass to create the opportunity. Had Mbeumo converted, United could have salvaged a point. Instead, Donnarumma stood in the way.

Overall, it was a disaster class from United, not simply because of the individual performances, but because of the lack of hunger, urgency and mentality when presented with an enormous opportunity against a 10-man City side.

Manchester City Overall Performance

Manchester City produced a masterclass in how an elite team responds when circumstances suddenly go against it.

Phil Foden let his team down with a rash reaction to Bruno Fernandes' antics, leaving City with 10 men from the 23rd minute. Yet what followed was arguably the most impressive aspect of their performance.

Rather than panic, the City remained calm and composed. Their players continued to control the match, manage possession and frustrate United despite the numerical disadvantage. That mentality is a major reason why Manchester City have dominated English football for much of the past decade and a half.

Haaland was, as usual, excellent. His involvement was relatively limited for long periods, but the striker needed only the slightest opportunity to deliver the killer blow. His 60th-minute finish not only decided the derby but took him to nine goals in Manchester derby history, making him the fixture's all-time leading scorer.

Enzo Fernández was another standout performer. He was an absolute menace throughout the game, combining strong performances with an ability to rile up the United players.

Iliman Ndiaye was excellent after coming off the bench, while Donnarumma was ultimately the hero. His sensational one-on-one save from Mbeumo in the dying stages could have undone all of City's hard work, but the goalkeeper stood firm.
