Marc Cucurella suffered an Injury during Chelsea's surprise 2-2 draw last weekend in the Premier League, and Liam Rosenior has now given us an injury update before Chelsea's game against Burnley this weekend. The Spanish left-back has been fantastic under Rosenior, but has also been one of Chelsea's best players this season even before Rosenior took the job.
Cucurella has made a total of 24 appearances this season in the Premier League, and he's scored 1 and assisted another 3 goals as well. The Spaniard has also played in the EFL Cup and Champions League for Chelsea this season, and his injury during the Leeds game was a big blow for Rosenior.
Will Marc Cucurella play for Chelsea against Burnley this EPL Weekend? Liam Rosenior responds
During his pre-match press conference before Chelsea's home game against Burnley this weekend, Liam Rosenior was asked to give an update on Marc Cucurella's return from injury. The following was his response:
"I can't give an exact timeframe on Marc. He suffered a hamstring injury. It's a real shame because he's one of the best left-backs in the world. We have Jorrel and Malo who can cover."
From his words, it looks like either Malo Gusto or Jorrel Hato will play in the left-back position for Chelsea against Burnley. It would be a great opportunity for Hato if he ends up getting the nod to play at left-back against Burnley, as his time at Chelsea so far hasn't been that great since moving from Ajax.
When is Marc Cucurella expected to return for Chelsea?
Chelsea are currently in a race to end the Premier League season in a Champions League position, and also go deep in the Champions League. Thus, they are about to get into one of the most important phases of the football season. The club will need their best players during this time, and Rosenior would undoubtedly want Cucurella back as soon as possible. The Spaniard is not just an excellent player but one of the main leaders as well in a Chelsea side that's filled with youngsters.
Prior to the comments from Liam Rosenior, a report from BBC'S Nizaar Kinsella stated that Cucurella is expected to return from his hamstring injury after 3-4. Considering the recent comments from Rosenior, it looks like he'll take it slow with the player's recovery to avoid any risk.
We expect Cucurella to return around mid-March to early April based on the reports. We wish him a speedy recovery.
