Mohamed Salah breaks record held by Wayne Rooney

Mohamed Salah delivered a statement performance as he helped Arne Slot's Liverpool to a 4–1 comeback win over Eddie Howe's Newcastle United at Anfield. In doing so, the Egyptian star broke a Premier League record previously held by Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Liverpool's Thierry Henry, underlining his lasting impact. Salah registered an assist in the huge victory over Newcastle,  as Liverpool recovered from conceding first to seal a convincing home victory. Salah, on the other hand, reaffirmed his importance to Arne Slot's team during what is a challenging spell for them at the moment.

Salah back to performing for Liverpool in what has been a controversial season for the Egyptian king

Mohamed Salah failed to score against Newcastle, but he still had a huge impact on the game. Coming back to scoring though, his last Premier League strike came against Aston Villa on November 1, 2025, shortly before he was dropped to the bench. The decision sparked a public outburst from the 33-year-old, whose glittering résumé includes Premier League, Champions League, Golden Boot and PFA Player of the Year honours. A timely escape from the spotlight followed during the Africa Cup of Nations, and on his return, tensions appeared resolved as Salah was restored to Arne Slot’s starting XI.

Mohamed Salah breaks multiple Premier League records in Liverpool's 4-1 victory over Newcastle

Mohamed Salah once again proved decisive for Liverpool, providing the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s equaliser in a commanding 4–1 win over Newcastle United. That contribution took Mohamed Salah to 10 goals and 10 assists against the Magpies, making him the first player in Premier League history to hit double figures for both against a single opponent.

Salah also set another landmark at Anfield, becoming the Premier League–era player with the most goal involvements at one venue. His 107 goals and 45 assists there (152 in total) move him ahead of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and Arsenal icon Thierry Henry. For those who thought Mohamed Salah is finished, he has now given the perfect reply to his doubters and haters by breaking more records.

Our opinion on Mohamed Salah breaking records in Liverpool's 4-1 victory over Newcastle

Mohamed Salah has undoubtedly slowed down this season for Liverpool, but that doesn't mean there still isn't a quality player in him. How Arne Slot and Liverpool can extract the best out of an ageing Salah is what will decide how his final phase at Liverpool will look like, and we hope it ends in the grandest way possible for a player who's forever be regarded as one of the best in modern Premier League history.
