Moussa Diaby transfer news

Multiple transfer reports have confirmed that former Aston Villa player Moussa Diaby, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, has attracted interest from both Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and Serie A giants Inter Milan. The French winger has made 17 appearances for Al-Ittihad this season, scoring 2 goals and providing 6 assists in the process.

Spurs now fighting with Inter Milan for Al-Ittihad star Moussa Diaby in what promises to be an intense transfer saga

Inter Milan were the only club seriously interested in signing Moussa Diaby initially, with Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that The French winger is keen on a move to Inter Milan and is prepared to accept a major pay cut to help make the transfer happen. Despite this agreement with the player, The deal is on hold as Al-Ittihad and their owners, Public Investment Fund, have not approved Inter’s proposed loan-with-option-to-buy structure. Al-Ittihad are also reluctant to let the former Bayer Leverkusen winger leave without securing a replacement, a challenge given the limited time left in the January window. While Diaby wants the move, Inter Milan must wait to see if the stance changes or a replacement is found.

Now a recent report from The Independent has confirmed Spurs joining the race for Diaby, which is not good news for Inter Milan. The report mentions that Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Moussa Diaby this window but must move quickly before the 2 February deadline, with the player weighing up his options. Spurs boss Thomas Frank is short of attacking depth, as Mohammed Kudus is sidelined until April and Richarlison is out with a hamstring injury.

Moussa Diaby: Premier League stint at Aston Villa, PSG connection, and club-record sale to Saudi

Moussa Diaby has a full season of Premier League experience, having played all 38 matches for Aston Villa in the 2023/24 campaign after a club-record move from Bayer Leverkusen. He delivered 10 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, playing a key role in Villa’s surprise top-four finish.

A graduate of Paris Saint-Germain’s academy, Diaby attracted strong Saudi interest the following summer. Villa sold him to Al-Ittihad for £50 million, recouping almost their entire investment. In his debut season, he helped Al-Ittihad win the Saudi Pro League, finishing joint-top for assists (15) alongside Salem Al-Dawsari of Al-Hilal.

Our opinion

We feel that Moussa Diaby is more suited for a club like Tottenham rather than Inter, and he should join them if the club is serious about the player. Diaby has previously proved with Aston villa that can excel in the Premier League, and adding him to the Spurs side would undoubtedly be a big boost for Thomas Frank's team. If Diaby ends up joining Inter, he'll have to adapt to the playing style in Italy. We still believe he'll do a fine job there as well considering his talent.
