Is this Pep Guardiola's last season at Manchester City? It has been one of the most widely asked questions this season. There have been several reports from top-tier journalists like David Ornstein and credible sources like the telegraph which have indicated that Pep might leave City after this season. However, a major new report from the i paper has come up with some surprising information regarding Guardiola's, and even City's plans for the next Summer Transfer Window.
Manchester City are going through a transitional season so far, as Pep Guardiola tries to rebuild his City side and take them to their previous heights of success. The likes of Marc Guéhi and Antoine Semenyo have already been brought in as a part of the rebuild, and more superstars are certain to arrive in the Etihad in the coming summer.
City are currently second in the Premier League table with 47 points, 6 behind Mikel Arteta's Arsenal. It remains to be seen whether Pep Guardiola can outclass his student Arteta in the end, and become Premier League Champion again.
What new report stays about Pep Guardiola's future
The report from i paper has stated that Manchester City are increasingly confident Pep Guardiola will see out his contract until 2027, even though the manager himself hasn’t decided his future yet. Club sources believe there are strong reasons he could stay on for another year, and City are already planning ahead by lining up summer moves for Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Michael Kayode (Brentford) and Givairo Read (Feyenrood) as part of their long-term squad planning.
Our opinion on the Pep Guardiola report from the i paper
If the report from the i paper comes out to be true, then there is absolutely no doubt that Manchester City will be a huge threat to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season. Guardio staying for another there would mean he could complete the rebuild of the City side, and that would mean the creation of a new-look Manchester City side that would probably be capable of competing for every major title in England and Europe.
The transition period for City would surely continue if another manager comes in for Pep, as it would always take time for a new manager and team to gel together in most circumstances. Arne Slot replacing Klopp was one of those rare exceptions where the transition went smooth initially , but Liverpool are currently having a disappointing season though.
Finally, Pep staying beyond the season would mean the likes of Enzo Maresca and Xabi Alonso, who have been heavily rumoured with the City Job, would have to wait to work for the Citizens. Let's wait and see what the future holds for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
