Liverpool could be set for another raid on Paris Saint-Germain this summer, with Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye both emerging as attacking targets ahead of the 2026/27 season. Barcola is reportedly the primary target as Liverpool look to replace the attacking output lost following Mohamed Salah's departure, although a deal is expected to cost more than £100 million. PSG have reportedly placed an even higher valuation on the France international, making negotiations difficult.
At the same time, Liverpool are also exploring a move for teenage winger Ibrahim Mbaye. The 18-year-old is viewed as an exciting long-term prospect, with his versatility and pace making him an attractive option for the Reds. Reports suggest Mbaye could cost between €40 million and €50 million.
But Barcola and Mbaye would not be the first players to have links between the two clubs. Several footballers have already represented both Liverpool and PSG, although not all of them moved directly between the two sides.
David N'Gog
Transfer: PSG → Liverpool
David N'Gog was one of the earliest players to make the direct journey from PSG to Liverpool. Rafael Benitez signed the young French striker in July 2008 for a reported fee of around £1.5 million.
N'Gog arrived as a developing forward rather than a proven star and was primarily used as a squad option behind Fernando Torres. Nevertheless, injuries to Torres gave him opportunities, particularly during the 2009/10 campaign.
He finished his Liverpool career with 94 appearances and 19 goals across three seasons. One of his most memorable moments came in October 2009 when he scored a stoppage-time goal against Manchester United at Anfield.
His PSG spell had been considerably more limited, but Liverpool provided him with the platform to develop at the highest level.
Hugo Ekitike
Transfer: PSG → Eintracht Frankfurt → Liverpool
Hugo Ekitike is the most recent player on this list, although his move to Liverpool was not a direct PSG transfer.
Ekitike joined PSG from Reims in 2022, initially on loan before the move became permanent. He scored four goals and provided four assists in 33 appearances for PSG, helping the club win the Ligue 1 title in 2022/23. However, competition for places eventually restricted his opportunities, leading to his loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2024.
Frankfurt subsequently made the move permanent before Liverpool signed Ekitike in 2025 for an initial £69 million, with a further £10 million in potential add-ons. He arrived at Anfield after an excellent 2024/25 season in which he recorded 11 goals and 5 assists in 28 EPL appearances.
Therefore, Ekitike represents a PSG-to-Liverpool connection, but not a direct transfer between the clubs.
Mohamed Sissoko
Transfer: Liverpool → Juventus → PSG
Mohamed Sissoko's route between the two clubs went in the opposite direction and involved another European giant.
Liverpool signed the energetic midfielder from Valencia in 2005, with Sissoko spending nearly three seasons at Anfield. He made 87 appearances and scored once, winning the UEFA Super Cup and FA Cup during his time on Merseyside. His physicality and defensive qualities made him an important part of Rafael Benitez's midfield.
After leaving Liverpool, Sissoko joined Juventus and later moved to PSG in 2011. His first season in Paris was productive, with two goals in 30 appearances, although injuries and increasing competition eventually reduced his importance. He finished his PSG career with 37 official appearances and helped the club win Ligue 1 in 2012/13.
Georginio Wijnaldum
Transfer: Liverpool → PSG
Perhaps the most successful player to represent both clubs in the modern era, Georginio Wijnaldum joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in 2016 before moving to PSG in 2021 after his Liverpool contract expired.
Wijnaldum became a crucial component of Jürgen Klopp's midfield. He made 237 appearances and scored 22 goals, while helping Liverpool win the Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. His two-goal comeback against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final remains one of his defining moments.
He subsequently joined PSG as a free agent in 2021, giving the Parisian club a highly experienced midfielder fresh from helping Liverpool win the Premier League.
Mamadou Sakho
Transfer: PSG → Liverpool
Mamadou Sakho made the direct move from PSG to Liverpool in September 2013. The French defender cost Liverpool around £18 million, arriving after more than 200 appearances for PSG and several domestic honours.
Sakho initially strengthened Brendan Rodgers' defence and was particularly valuable because of his ability to play both centre-back and left-back. He made 80 appearances and scored three goals for Liverpool.
His standout moments included goals during Liverpool's memorable 4-3 Europa League comeback against Borussia Dortmund and the Merseyside derby. However, his relationship with Jürgen Klopp eventually deteriorated, and he left permanently after a loan spell at Crystal Palace.
Nicolas Anelka
Transfer: PSG → Liverpool (loan)
Nicolas Anelka was the first player to travel directly from PSG to Liverpool, joining the Reds on loan in December 2001 following Robbie Fowler's departure.
The French striker quickly became popular with Liverpool supporters and made 22 appearances, scoring five goals. Four of those goals came in 20 Premier League matches, while another arrived in the FA Cup. His performances helped Liverpool finish second in the Premier League.
Despite his strong impact, manager Gerard Houllier decided against making the loan permanent and instead signed El-Hadji Diouf. Anelka subsequently moved to Manchester City. UEFA records that Liverpool ultimately decided not to retain him permanently despite his contribution during the loan spell.
Could Barcola or Mbaye become the next PSG-Liverpool success story?
Liverpool's history with PSG has produced a mixture of outcomes, from Anelka's impressive loan spell and Wijnaldum's trophy-filled Anfield career to more modest contributions from N'Gog and Sissoko.
Barcola would arrive with considerably greater expectations. The 23-year-old has already established himself at PSG and is seen as one of the most promising young French attackers in world football.
Mbaye, meanwhile, would be more of a long-term investment. Liverpool reportedly see the Senegal international as an exciting young winger who could develop into a major attacking player.
If either deal is completed, the PSG-to-Liverpool transfer pipeline will have another chapter, and if Liverpool spend more than £100 million on Barcola, it could easily become the most expensive and high-profile deal between the two clubs yet.
